Hide card names in FoW games

Post by Brian_c_m »

Concise description:
In fog of war games, when a player hands in their set of cards, the log should hide the names of the cards rather than displaying them. The problem is that occationally, opponents can figure out your location by seeing whether or not you receive a bonus or not from the set.
For example, on the Feudel War map.
"player 1 cashed in a group of Northern Plains 1, Barbarians 1, and Yer Village worth 10 troops"
"player 1 gets bonus of 2 troops added to ?"

If it's early enough into the game then it's quite obvious that the only territory that player 1 could be holding is Barbarians 1 and that gives his entire position away. Granted, this wouldn't normally be a problem in regular maps... but on maps like Feudel War and Age of Realms, where there is only a single starting point, the less your opponents know about your position the better.

My simple suggestion would be,
"player 1 cashed in a group of red, blue, and green worth 10 troops"
"player 1 gets bonus of 2 troops added to ?"

This will improve the following aspects of the site:
  • Makes FoW games more hidden

I thought it already did this? Can you show me an example game please?

If not, I definitely think this is a good idea.

edit: Ok, I see what you mean now. I think that your idea should happen. Since it's fog, the color of the cards probably shouldn't even be known either.

IMO I should be shown everything that happens on or adjacent to a territ I own at the time of it happening. So for cards I should only get to know that my opponent has exchanged 3 cards for X troops, unless I own a territ adjacent to one where he gets a bonus then I should be shown that (no need to be shown the card colour though).

I think you shouldnt even be able to see another player's actions unless it is adjacent to your own territories. Instead of "Player 1 deploys 2 troops to ?; Player 1 attacks ? from ? and conquers it from neutral player, player 1 reinforces 4 troops from ? to ?", we should only see "Player 1 takes a turn".
