Now this is somethings... amazing, excellent work!

The flames could use some work, but other than that, the map is wonderful.

Thanks Neon...yes the flames are being worked on.....

Version 18 below:
1. Font changed on all territories
2. Flames worked over
3. Caesar's Palace makeover
4. Livia and Livilla removed from the legend re poison items so that this can be used for others if I find them
5. xml written to date with preview below to show how clearly the armies will appear

Typo: It's VIALS instead of Viles in reference to the poison. Good change though, and I'd suggest re-distributing the vials to say, the right side of the map. Just because it wasn't advertised doesn't mean that attempts at poison didn't happen in that part of the family. That way, the problem of any heavy-left-dropping person being pretty much screwed by the guy holding onto the Figs will be alleviated.

The flames...still aren't there. They look like multi-colored papier mache to me. As an additional suggestion, why not have part of Nero's palace crumbling from the flames? It'd make it more destructive.

There's a slight amount of overlap on Julius Caesar's palace by the adoption line to Augustus.

I'm still a little bit divided by the bonuses. By trying to keep them all small, you're ending up with some severely lopsided bonuses. For instance, Gaius Marius and Julia Caesaris is 2 territories, 1 border, +1. Proconsul Caesar and Aurelia Cotta is 4 territories, 7 borders, +1. That's not balanced at all. Yes, you can expand the latter bonus into several further easy +1's, but starting out that'll be a matter of pretty dice luck or good drop. Bump Proconsul up to +2. The rest of them are fairly balanced on closer inspection.

A few semantics:
- Change Family Unit & Bonus to simply Family Unit Bonus
- Change the description of Adoption to Not required for family unit bonus (shorter, more succinct, and easier to understand)
- Add a "but" between Emperors and not on the Gods to make it a nice sentence

Dangit, yet again I meant to put only a few quickie lines, and I ended up making sure the map got

Looking nice cairns, but I agree with tacks comment about the flames. Can you not use a photo image like this one? I'm sure I've used image-on-black-background jpgs before and managed to get the black act like alpha-0 layering before.

e_i_pi...i don't use that photo image  ....those flames are vectors that i created :) Please don't jump off your horse while it is running.

Mmmm. I though the times new roman font was weak and miserable compared to this one which has more substance to it's legs. :)

I like this new one better…anyway besides the "viles–›vials" this map is looking great. Early on I wasn't very excited over it and thought it was just a jarbled mess but after you re-designed it it looks stunning. And besides the flames (of course), my only question (for now) is that is NOT the final XML coordinates, are they?

Thanks .44 :)
the flames and viles -> god they are vile aren't they? hehehe ;)
No these are not the final xml cordinates, all the centering has to be done and i may yet shift some placements around on some territories :)

TaCktiX...i had a look at all that stuff except the bonuses, and the destruction on Nero's palace.....didn't want to go there. :)
Proconsol bonus increased to +2

Legend tidied and font in legend consistant with font in terts.

I'm a nitpick, I know, but I just realized that "only" and "but" in the same sentence make no sense with regards to the gods. Delete the Only and it should read right.

A follow up nitpick - it should be border, not borders. "Gods border Emperors but not each other" is the full sentence, I believe.

Gussied...this is a term that i found described as being an australian slang....but i've never heard of it.
anyway, i think it suits you well.
What yould you do to have me gussy them up a bit. What would you like to see.

Well, I have nothing but gut feeling behind this, but I would imagine that there would at least be superficial difference between, say, a temple of Ceres and a temple of Jupiter. So rather than have the same exact four temples differentiated by color, I suppose you could keep the color but maybe have different little embellishments on them. Though considering the space (or lack thereof) involved, it might be a moot point.

Like I said, not a huge thing. But you've done so much work embellishing the rest of the map, t'would seem a crime to not at least take a swing at the temples.

I thought i had already embelished them with the top triangular facade piece and the columns.
Given that most of the god statues were inside the temples and they can't be seen from here, i used the colours to differentiate them. There is one more thing i will do to them and that is actually make the temples smaller to sit on those stairs - that will give them a bit of a difference, but beyond that.....i don't know.

a rome map with a difference!

cairnswk wrote:1. The number of territories currently on the map.
59 territories - if i add one more (Sejanus) there will be sixty.

59 starting territories (excluding the gods, which start neutral) is good. 60 is less so because, in 2v2 (the popular 4-player doubles format), each player starts with 15 territories and the deployment of player 2 can be reduced if only one territory is taken.

Version 20

1. Altered the stair on the temples
2. auto-kerned the names
3. decreased the opacity on the flames by 10% to 50%

OK, There is substantial work involved in up-scaling this small version to the large.
Please, if you have any concerns, i'd appreciate it if you could express them now before i upsize this map, as I don't want to be making major changes afterwards.
Thanks.

You could add more to Emeror Claudius's temple above both staircases. Kind of blank right now.

the Ii is still not fixed above Cleopatra.

Sorry cairns,

I waited and hoped that you would produce something will more substance graphically. You map is flat and really doesn't intrest me in the slightest.

I really, really don't see anything of appeal but I also don't have anything to suggested that may make it better. I just feel a map maker of your calibar can and has produced maps that has earned you the respect as one of CC best map makers. Unfortunatly this image doesn't do justice to your reputation.

I am sorry cairns, and you know I do not say this in spite or out of disrespect. I only want to see the best from you as you have shown this community so many times before. There is something someone once said to me that I am going to share with you:

'I know you can do better'
