Very Different C. S. Tournament [Winner: goggles paisano]
Welcome to the Very Different C. S. Tournament!
Premium players only please, as up to 7 games will be played at a time.
Following the successful reception of my ongoing I. G. K. Tournament, and an idea by Blitzaholic, I’m creating a tournament to celebrate all the maps beginning with S and C.
This will include the new version of the Centerscape map, and the brand new Central America map (as long as they are ready in time).
The idea of this tournament is that there will be some very popular maps, and other less played ones, so everyone will have at least a couple of their favourites, as well as some they’re not so experienced at. It is called Very Different as the range of maps require very different styles of playing, and the winner will prove that they are a very versatile player.
The tournament will start with 64 players, in 4 groups of 16.
Round 1
Every player will play each of the following five maps, with different opponents in each player so that everyone plays everyone else in the group once:
Canada
San Francisco
Caribbean Islands
South America
Charleston
These 5 games will be 4-player, Sequential, Escalating, Unlimited, Sunny.
Everyone will then play the 5 maps again, with the same settings except with Fog.
Points for each game will be awarded as follows:
1st: 5 points
2nd: 3 points
3rd: 2 points
4th: 1 point if survived past the end of Round 8, 0.5 points if knocked out in round 6, 7 or 8, and 0 points if knocked out before the end of Round 5.
At the end of all 10 games, the 4 players in each group with the lowest scores are eliminated.
The groups are shuffled into 3 groups of 16, with the scores from Round 1 carrying over.
Round 2
The same will happen, each player playing every other on 5 maps:
Cairns Coral Coast
Scotland
Soviet Union
Sydney Metro
Space
The settings for the first 5 games will be: 4-player, Sequential, Escalating, Chained, Sunny.
The maps will be played again, with the same settings but with Fog.
Points will be awarded in the same way as Round 1.
The top 8 players from each group will automatically go through to Round 3, with points carrying over.
The 9th, 10th, 11th and 12th place players in each group will play-off in the Last Chance Round.
Last Chance Round
12 players will each play a 6-player game on Classic Shapes and Classic Art, and a 4-player game on those two maps. All games will be Sequential, Escalating, Unlimited and Foggy.
Points for the 4-player games will be awarded in the same way as Rounds 1 and 2. Points for the 6-player games will be awarded as follows:
1st: 8 points
2nd: 5 points
3rd: 3 points
4th: 2 points
5th: 1 point
6th: 0 points
These points start from zero and won’t carry over to the next round.
The top 8 players join the original 24 qualifiers in Round 3. Scores carried over are the players’ scores at the end of Round 2.
Round 3
The same format as Rounds 1 and 2 applies, with 2 groups of 16 playing 5 maps:
CCU
The Citadel
City Mogul
Siege!
Solar System
Setting for the first 5 games are: 4-player, Sequential, Flat Rate, Unlimited, Sunny.
Again, the second 5 games will be the same but Foggy.
The top 8 players from each group will go through to Round 4, with scores carrying over.
Round 4
The last of the 5-map, 10-game rounds will be played by 1 group of 16 players on the following maps:
Conquer 4
Conquer Man
Crossword
Chinese Checkers
Supermax: Prison Riot
Settings will be 4-player, Sequential, Flat Rate, Chained, and Sunny for the first 5 games, Foggy for the second 5.
The top 8 players go through to Round 5, points carrying over again.
Round 5
In honour of the revamped Centerscape and the brand new Central America maps coming out, this round will be based around them. Everyone will play 3 games on each map.
Centrescape will have 1 Sunny game and 2 Foggy, Central America will have 2 Sunny games and 1 Foggy.
*If the maps aren't ready by this point, they will be replaced with other maps, probably Classic Art and Classic Shapes - awaiting response from the cartography team*
All the games will be 8-player, Sequential, Escalating and Unlimited.
Points will be awarded like this:
1st: 15 points
2nd: 12 points
3rd: 9 points
4th: 7 points
5th: 5 points
6th: 3 points
7th: 1 point
8th: 0 points
After all six games, the top 4 players will progress to the Grand Final Round.
Grand Final Round
The remaining 4 players will play Circus Maximus 7 times. Settings are: 4-player, Sequential, No Spoils, Chained, 3 games Sunny and 4 Foggy.
Points are awarded as follows:
1st: 10 points
2nd: 6 points
3rd: 4 points
4th: 2 points if survived past the end of Round 8, 1 point if knocked out in round 6, 7 or 8, and 0 points if knocked out before the end of Round 5.
The player with the most points is crowned Champion of the Very Different C. S. Tournament!
