Fonts

Post by freakshow »

Ok so the one thing I've learned from doing some amature graphic design is that having a wide selection of fonts is key, with that in mind here's a link to a package of 6760 fonts http://thelinuxbox.org/?page_id=3

Haha. The one thing I've learned from professionl graphic design is not to have too many fonts, especially when you're learning :D

Seriously though, good link that, funky fonts can be very useful, as long as used in moderation. Handy to have them in your library for the occasions when they're very useful.

yeah I was thinking it would be good for things like titles, etc. I always seem to have the wrong fonts for the titles I'm doing.

The problem is really that most free fonts aren't very versatile. They're great if you're doing a halloween poster, but not good for general usage.

If you're interested in learning more about typography here's a few links you might find interesting:

Some good books:

For more regular work, having a good set of base fonts that you can rely on is very useful: Adobe Type Basics is pretty cheap, and gives you a nice set for a basic collection:

All the best!
