Remove 1 Hour Turn Time Limit

Post by Famous Agent »

Look I know that people have complained allot about holding and I can see why. But a one hour timer? Personnnally I think that the timer should be gotten rid of all together. I cant say that I had been acustomed to holding that much (acsept when I forgot to end my turn) but at least extend the time limit to 3 hours because sometimes people like taking a long time with their turn just so they can think things over or wait for a team mate.

then why dont you start your turn only when you know what you want to do. and besides, an hour is plenty of time, baring any system failures (which have been somewhat common as of late)

[rant] if you are waiting for a partner, use chat to make sure they are there first. if you want to take a long turn i direct you to the home page.. "A game typically lasts several days, but hardcore risk takers can play multiple games at once and stay up all night strategizing their next move." if attacking takes 3 hours for you i suggest you stay up all night strategizing, and then you will have no problems with taking a turn in an hour, which is more then enough time. heck, i've played real time games in an hour let alone 1 turn. and as for holding? just because you have not done it doesnt mean others have. there have been countless times where a player has said blatently "but if i end my turn and he goes next he'll win.. my only chance is to wait until the end of the 24 hour period"... thats just ridiculous.. games should not be played like that, its not sportsmanlike. good job lack, keep up the work. How is that unfair? If you good enough then you can learn how to make sure that your territory is secure no matter when someone starts their turn or when they end it. This new rule is just dumbing down the game for those that are to lazy to learn how to deal with holding.

Would you quit it with the fucking moaning?! There is a one hour timer, to stop cunts like you from delaying games any more than they need to be delayed. The timer's here, and it's staying. Get over it.

EDIT: Sorry for the foul language, I've just got back from watching a footie match lol.

How the hell does it take more than an hour to do a turn? It's hardly rocket science and the actual mouse clicking bit of taking a turn is hardly the most dextrous task you'll ever be asked to perform - just get on with it.

I'm trying to figure out how these peole play Risk IRL!. If I were playing the boardgame with someone who took more than 5-15 minutes to take a turn, I might beat them. That's just ridiculous. I don't know why anyone needs to take more than an hour! I doubt they really have that long of an attention span anyway.

well you're a special case, wacicha.

you should be able to take your turns over 103 cups of coffee, according to my calculations

Ho ho ho. Well, indeed, if we are playing a boardgam IRL and someone is taking more than 5 minutes for a turn, there's bound to be some noises. More than 15 minutes? The noises are getting louder and the remarks start to have a bite in them, especially if it's not your first or second time playing that particular game.

Here, I take somewhat longer than IRL, especially since with sunshine on my monitor I have some difficulty seeing some numbers and the dropdown menus keep giving me wrong countries... Kids might be having emergencies I have to go sort out etc. When playing team games, we might want to play simultaneously so that one can send reinforcements, and so forth and so forth.

Even with what I said above, the 1 hour time limit is plenty. And I am, after all, one who often gets those biting remarks in IRL boardgames!

And about a computer crash or something like that? Is that a good reason to keep the others waiting for 24 hours...?

I don't think the real issue is that people need more than ten or fifteen minutes to take their turn. It's that sometimes they don't always have a full ten uninterrupted minutes available (and may not realize this until it's too late). Say, if you get called away by a family member, have to take an important phone call, lose your network connection, etc.

Exactly. That's where the 1 hour limit comes in nicely. It leaves room for the little interruptions of having a life, but also puts a limit on it. If you are doing your turn in a morning, get interrupted, have to leave it unfinished, it's not really needed to have it waiting 9 hours until you get back from work... Your loss, but the game must go on. ;) (And, for the record, the 'you' is there just in general, actually that kind of thing is quite likely to happen to me. ;))

Time limit

Post by Fantius »

Why do I have 24 hours to take my turn before I start my turn but only 1 hour to finish my turn after my turn has started? It doesn't make sense. The clock should not reset to 1 hour when my turn begins.

So you don't forget to hit end fort and your turn doesn't end for 24 hours.

IT might be for freesytle so, people just don't wait for other people to go, or for another person to take an area.

The 24 hour period is to let you play any time during the day, and to play the entire game over the course of several days.

The 1 hour period for your turn is because it would almost never take longer than that to play a single turn (the only exception might be with games on World 2.0 where turns can last mugh longer than normal).

Basically, once you start your turn you are at your computer and should be able to finish it within the hour. If you haven't started your turn yet you may not be around which is why the round doesn't end sooner.

The reason I brought it up was that I started my turn, lost my internet connection, and then got it back after the hour time limit was up. I started my turn but never deployed any armies. I did not get to deploy the armies from that tuncated turn on my next turn (which I think is what happens if you completely miss a turn -- I'm not sure because I have never completely missed a turn).

1 hour too short for 2.0 map game

Post by erikiscool »

1 hour is really too little time for a 2.0 map game, I had to take out 3-4 players with slow response Sunday pm and ran out of time. All my armies were out of position and I didn't even get a card. Will probably now lose the game 148436. :(

Once Lack finishes up the updates, the server should be working faster.

Even without a faster server I think that the hour time limit is a little rough on that map.

Why not have the time limit be roughly proportional to the number of countries the map contains? So 0-50 countries would have an hour time limit, 50-100 countries would have 1.5 hours, 100+ would have a 2 hour time limit.

That seems to make sense since it can take much longer to finish crucial turns on the very large maps. Also, this problem will grow more noticeable once 8 player games are implemented...
