it's about time... there has gotta be a worst place than hell for people like him.

genocide is probably one of the highest crimes i can think of. it is right up there with terrorism, suicide bombers, serial killers , killers and child molesters.

to me these are the most dispicable acts that any human can commit.

they say that history repeats itself. i believe this statement to be true.

Croatians vs Serbians ,hootos & tootoos, the mass killings and torture of Jews throughout history by various parties and way to many others that have committed genocide through the years.

i just don't understand why there is so much hatred and evil in this " civilized world"

they fill up the prisons and, our tax dollars keep these individuals feed, clothed and provide shelter for them.

I personally believe that people that commit these crimes need to be executed. not kept health & happy in prison.

Saddam shoud have been chained to something and stoned by the victims families he caused so much pain to.

hanging is quick. too good for him.

the end. i got it out of my chest. thank you.

We'll have to wait and see what consequences it has for the political situation in Iraq before there can be any rejoicing.

Took the words right out of my mouth, there. I read about various "experts'" opinions of the consequences in the Guardian, but the overall impression I get is that no-one really has a clue. The only people who will be rejoicing are those who supported the war in the first place, and still think it was right.

You forgot the Bosnian Muslims. They were the only completly inocent party in the conflict since they never got outside their national borders.

I didn't even realize he'd been hung yet.. ehh, maybe its because i've been neglecting the news in favour of sleep this week..

But, to get onto the point(because nobody cares that i've been sleeping alot), I don't think hanging was enough.. I was hoping for beheading, maybe dismemberment, disembowelment, stoning.. anything thats more torturous than a hanging.. but I guess it could be worse.. they could have given him the lethal injection..

And I wanted to see it too :(

I get that, but you named to sides in the conflict (you were talking about genocide) and you failed to mention the side that was really the biggest victim of the conflict.
Beside, sinc I am a Croat, it gives me a nice fuzzy feeling to be so objective and fair o:-)

Cant saw it off with a butter knife... Its called cutting away at the mans deepest parts ..I'd take a knife and cut it off then I'd go for the connecting part... *wink* Can you say lorena bobbitt? Then I'd chop off each arm and leg off.. With a big smile on my face knowing his victoms would be getting real justice!

And you think that's justice? I call it sick.

People who say that and mean it are making themselves every bit as bad as Saddam was. I didn't check what country you're plaing from, but you should know that toture has been abolished in western countries for quite some time already (hint: human rights, etc). I know that they don't always take it very seriously (Abu Ghraib, Guantanamo Bay, ...) but those principles are one main thing that sets us apart from dictatorships and also from terrorists/freedom fighters/resistance (different names depending on one's point of view). What do you think our societies would be like if we were torturing criminals to death left and right ? Things like that have a history of getting out of hand.

Am I the only one who sees this as terrible?

Here we are, trumpeting Iraq as this step forward for democracy, and we kill him in such an arcane way as hanging. Its a step backwards. While i don't approve of the death penalty, i think that if you do you should at least make it humane.

If you look at the amount of deaths caused by UN sanctions, and our war, it surpasses the amount that Saddam had killed while fighting Kurds. We scolded Saddam for using torture, and used it to paint him as this vile embodiment of evil, yet we turn around and torture people ourselves.

I'm not saying Saddam was good, but he got the job done. he had a stable country and government and was able to keep a secular island in a radical religious sea. Since he died in such a way at our hands, i think we need to step back and look at ourselves, before trying to condemn others.

Won't this make Saddam a martyr.

I fail to see what it accomplishes really, can only bring badness.

That's OK, many Iraqis are managing that themselves, and taking lots of innocent people along with them. It's called "civil war".

The other thing that bothered me about this, was the way his final moments were televised (but not the actual hanging bit itself), with his wardens balaclava'd up, presumably so their identities weren't given away.

That isn't how a stable, democratic country goes about meting out justice - now, I know Iraq ain't stable, democratic, or even a country, but I would have thought they'd pretend, at least.
