Unlimited Fortification Abuse? (Freestyle)

Post by HourofPower »

Just wondering what you guys think of this. And by this I mean when someone makes their moves and ends attacks, but then doesn't end fortifications until everyone else makes their attacks. Or perhaps before the last person so they can take their turn first.

I don't know how common this is or if I explained it well, but basically it allows the person to continue fortifying and moving troops in response to the other players' attacks.

Nothing is cheap unless it is a secret alliance, or a multi, or lying to win a fog of war game, or an alliance when it is not necessary. Those are the only three things that are cheap on any map and setting.

That's the point of freestyle - don't take your turn so soon if you don't like it - plain and simple. You have 24 hours to take your turn, there is no abuse of when you decide to take it. If you don't like that style, play sequential.

Since when did "just wondering what you guys think of this" mean I dont like freestyle?

Anyways, do you guys normally start your turn at 8am and continue it throughout the day?

From the time you hit begin turn you have exactly 1 hour to finish your turn or your turn is stopped for you :)

Once you start your turn, you have one hour to complete it. If you don't "End Fortifications" before the end of that hour, then your turn will time out and you will not gain any cards, if there are cards to gain.

Nope. It's a trick I use a lot. Especially in large maps. It's amazing technique. They spend 20 armies to attack something. Then I move ALL my armies there. And they don't break thru. And then I fort again :P

It's never a good idea to play a game that has both freestyle turns and unlimited fortifications. The better start and better connection will always win.

So says the striper. That's the mentality of all lower ranks. "The only reason I'm at this rank is because of some disadvantage beyond my control, not my playing style or strategy..."

That's why I don't play freestyle that much. I play my turns late on a West Coast night so I'm usually off. But I would totally do that if I worked during the day.

I actually like freestyle, I think it adds cool strategic elements that wouldn't normally be there.

But I think it might be fun to have a third option - "freestyle sequential" , where anyone could take their turn at any time (like freestyle) - except only one person could take their turn at a time. This would make games go quicker, but you would just have to deal with the normal, sequential strategies.
