13th ranked Tennessee spoiled Temple's home opener with a win in 9 rounds (3607791). Coach Plash Ricrem could only shake his head when asked about the Vols hyperactive fast break offense. "They just kept coming, pushing any advantage they could get (4 on 3) or even when they were were short handed, they never stopped going to the hoop. I thought we did an alright job locking down on defense after the first couple of minutes, but a unfortunate charging call on our big man allowed them to regain all of the momentum. Once again it was a good learning experience, and I think I want to see if we can implement some of their fast break strategies in our future games."

Virginia Tech came out very aggressive and was able to defeat Wisconsin (Game 3607983) in a grueling Big Ten vs. ACC Challenge matchup. The Hokies were able to get an early lead and did not relinquish it, but the Badgers did not lay down without a fight. This game was physical until the last few minutes when the Hokies pulled away. With wins by North Carolina (over Michigan State) and Georgia Tech (over Penn State), the ACC now has a 3-1 lead in the series. The Big Ten will hope to build off of the win by Iowa (over Boston College).

Finally Portland lost its first match, and was against Notre Dame in 6 rounds.
A very well played game for the visitants.

Georgia's press proved too much for the #12 Boilermakers, as the Bulldogs take down Purdue.

Yes, the rankings are updated each Sunday night...so Mondays should feature updated standings, top-20 rankings and a new batch of games with various other updates following during the week along with the next batch of games each Thursday.

Also wanted to make a public "thank you" to amazzony for setting me straight on the shortcut for mass pming everyone in a league, thus our new pm format for sending out new games (seems to make things much easier for people to join).

Judas betrayed Jesus. Hitler died a quick death. Ed Hochuli handed victory from the Chargers to the Broncos. To this list of atrocities has been added a new one: Memphis at home over USC in 7 rounds (Game 3607847).
The Tigers, 3-1 now, took advantage of an incredibly generous call (mixed set in round 4) at the end of the first half, turning an early deficit into a solid lead (breaking his bonus while defending my own). In the second half, the Trojans seemed afraid to get physical on defense (some unfortunate dice), and Memphis put the game away with a series of three's.
"A win's a win," said head coach John Calipari. "I'd like to thank my brother Stu."
In an interesting move, Memphis AD Huntyr Green, known to have a deep interest in the men's basketball program, sent a personal e-mail to all press attending the game. In it, he quotes rules stating that home teams must provide their own referees in non-conference games and that those referees need not be from a third conference, as custom dictates.
Stu "Misspelled" Squiddish, who officiated the game, released the following statement after the game: "I saw what I called, and I called what I saw. Memphis had already recovered from their struggles at the start of the game, and they deserved to wi... Well, I mean, they earned the victory. I did not intentionally favor one team, nor was I paid enou... Aw, screw it... Go Tigers! Thank you, that is all."
"Nobody puts Baby in the corner," senior Robert Dozier shouted while heading into the lockerroom, "and nobody beats a Tiger in its own den."
He said that last week, too.
Next week, he'll say it again.

Washington State Cougars return to .500 with a dominating win over Pitt in the Consolation game in the Legends Classic. Coach Coug Fan brought the defense out to play today but once they had Pitt on the ropes proceeded to show the athletism and killer instinct that could take this young team far this season.
The Coach is looking forward to the challenge down south when they soon play #18 LSU.
