I am not concerned for myself, or anything like that. But I haven't seen the new map plans yet and it should be top priority. Look at all the people posting with low/no post counts. And It's only going to grow...

That sucks they made you guys change the classic map...that new one is horrible..will it be updated??

I guess i'm one of those low-post count people, sorry i didn't read all that before. Personally I love the site, I recommend it to all other game lovers

No, the goal of this change was to quickly alienate as many users as possible. The next changes will be to geometrically facsimilate the rest of the maps on the site. If you're is still logging in after that, expect a visit from from some hired goons.

OK, new member here.
Just playing my first game on .... classic and also got a bit of a shock.
I understand the owners of conquer club on replacing the map and not being able to tell us about because of legal actions.
And I understand why everybody is up set about it.

But screaming in the forum doesn't help you neither does it help conquer club.
So get the word out, do you have a blog, write about this case.
Give Harbos a bad name. They crushed already a scrabble game on facebook, only to release their own version that was crap.
Tell people about this, give Harbos bad publicity and maybe Conquer Club can negotiate with Harbos to have a classic map in return of some Harbos advertising on the site.

I submitted a story about this to techdirt (http://www.techdirt.com/).
Not sure if they post but I can always try.

This is another reason why we need a copyright reform because claiming copyright on a game that is over 50 years old is stressing the reason for having copyright. "To promote the Progress of Science and useful Arts, by securing for limited Times to Authors and Inventors the exclusive Right to their respective Writings and Discoveries."

Can someone please point me to the thread in the Foundy where the new map work is starting? I can't find it and I've just about gone through the whole Foundry forum looking for it. I'm hoping to make a contribution to the solution to this disaster, and I understand the Foundry is about the only way now to do that.

It hasn't. Nothing official yet. People are throwing around ideas, but no one really knows what exactly needed changes and what is allowed, etc.

The change to the classic map is super sucky. I am disappointed with the new one.

I hope we can get the classic one back somehow.

No doubt one of the best forums on the sight for sure. Maps that get their first stamp are ten times better than the quick classic and middle earth fix, no doubt of dramatic improvement there for sure.

Good grief. Given the bad taste this has generated, you'd think that getting onto an amiable solution would be a high priority. We want to help, but we can't! I've tossed most of my ideas into this forum already, for lack of a more formal process. I've already mentioned (60-70 pages ago?) the need for us to see a list of what was considered to be breaching the copyright so that we can assist in finding a solution ... and still nothing ...

Here are my ideas so far in a nutshell:

* No need to change the language. Attacks can still be attacks, fortifying can still be fortifying. The words cannot be copyrighted, and alread CC has modified these parts of the gameplay enough to be sufficiently different to the original game. You can still call them continents, too, though a generic word may be better if it is to apply across all maps. I don't like the word 'spoils' either. 'Cards' is fine.

* You can still call them dice. I don't mind the new images, but the language is dumb.

* You can still use a map of the world. You don't have to change the aspect or the continental layout. There is no way the concept a map of the world can be owned by anyone.

* It may be necessary to modify slightly the layout of the different territories (and you can still call them that too - can't copyright that word) to make it sufficiently different to the original map. Note, the number doesn't have to change, only slight modifications to the lines.

* You don't have to change the placenames if you don't want to. It may be an idea to do small things (like change 'Siam' to 'Thailand') just to update the map, but placenames cannot be copyrighted.

* There is obviously no need to change the gameplay. Because that hasn't been changed on any of the other maps, it obviously hasn't needed to be.

* It may be that the combination of a number of things (eg, the world map plus the placenames plus the gameplay plus the language) amounts to a sufficient similarity to be of concern. Given that the other maps haven't needed to be changed (Middle Earth aside for the moment) then it is evident that changing the map alone, and maybe one or two phrases, is sufficient. But 'attacking' is a generic term used in many war games, so Hasbro cannot lay claim to it. And 'assaulting' as a word just sucks - sounds like something a dirty old man would be doing ... Note also my earlier comment about the word 'reinforcement' - That is used in the original game where CC uses the word 'Deploy", so changing 'fortifying' into 'reinforcing' isn't really gaining you anything. May as well just go back to 'fortifying'.

* Note also that there remain dozens of other web sites offering similar risk-clones. If Hasbro wishes to protect their copyright, then they need to be protecting it against ALL comers, not just one or two. Otherwise they cannot claim that they are wishing to protect their property - because they are allowing others to continue unabated. I'm thinking of games like 'Attack' on Facebook, and Landgrab.com.

To help quell the disquiet on this site, CC needs to get moving on a solution fast. Frankly, I won't be starting any new games until the classic map is fixed. Now my single action there is hardly going to make or break CC - unless it develops into a wider member trend. I'm happy to be part of the solution - so let's get cracking guys!!

I really liked the classic map

I really hate the thing you put in it's place.

Please put it back.

I can get used to the dice thing and the "assault" thing but not the map.

That's just mean, give it back.

Haha, and partially randomly chosen too. I had a fantastic map that got lots of support, but it never got moved to the main foundry, because the mods never looked at it. :x
