classic map?

Post by wreckead »

wtf has happened?

i came on today for a blast on my old conquer club and they have totally screwed it up. tbh i play classic map 98% of the time and its now gone.

i can only guess that waddington have complained about their copyright on risk but why i dont know. it wouldnt be so bad if they ran online server support for their original risk games which i have (but they dont). if this is the case then screw waddingtons. if not can any1 shed some light on this.

as it stands i will not be playing this once my current games are finished. and i feel that i should get a refund on whats left because this isnt what i signed up for.

The "NEW" Classic map.

Post by acespirit99 »

I fully understand the need to protect yourself from being sued, but, what you did to the classic map is horrible.
You have another map that is the world, you didn't change that at all.
Why didn't you just change the way the world looked. Change some of the names on the countries, I mean, so many of them have disappeared anyway, you could substitue new countries or even older ones.
You could also change the shape of the counties, as well.
I really don't like the look of this, this, this, chemical compound.
I am a long time player and a premium member, PLEASE, change it to a world again!!!!

No way to run a railroad

Post by scottp »

A service provider makes MAJOR changes to the "look and feel" of the service provided.

Nothing said or noted on the "entry way" (Home Page) of the establishment.

Nothing posted in the "Announcements" section, the logical place a customer might go look for an explanation.

A pseudo-explanation sort of made on the 36th (or so) page of a thread that, at first read, seems COMPLETELY unrelated to the "new" situation at hand.

No way to run a railroad, or stay in business. Marketing 101 and/or Freshman Level Common Sense should be plenty to understand this.

We could all email hasbro expressing out discontentment with the handling of the situation.
[mod edit]The changes are to avoid any problems...what would contacting them do? [/mod edit]

Lack probably had a very limited time frame in which to make the changes. I'm sure they will get proper diligence soon. :)

*new* Classic Map

Post by Rivertrance »

Could somebody please explain to me (or point me in the right direction) as to why the classic map has been changed. Surely there has to be a good reason why CC has made this change. It's terrible, and I am wondering how you can even call this the "Classic" Map.

Please tell me you aren't going to keep this thing. That this is some kind of joke.

Bring back the real Classic...PLEASE!

The Classic map, the Centerscape map, the instructions and our lingo have changed. Regrettably, this had to be done to avoid any potential copyright issues. We hope you continue to enjoy the unique gameplay that only Conquer Club can offer!

Seeing as how Hasbro owns the rights to RISK, I can't think of any other way they could get in trouble for copyright issues... But you do bring up a valid point. It'd be nice if a mod could clarify what exactly happened.

How about a revamp? This one should be rather interesting.

the only things that are set in stone are the locations and borders, the xml is done, and there is no theme to start out with whatsoever. So if we get a bunch of people to give their best shot for the background image, I think it could be rather nice. The theme does not even have to stay the same, but I would rather have anything than just random shaped with numbers in them.

I am not angry at conquerclub for changing the maps, in fact, I applaud them for being so quick and efficient at the process. Now, the dice, "assault" and "reinforce" may be a little much (although I do like "reinforce" better than "fortify"), but I don't think people really see much of a difference. A person that just came to the site will not have a problem with the dice, or the wording, or any of that stuff. The only reason people are angry now is because they do not like change.

So how about a revamp guys? This one should be rather fun, since there is no theme to stick to.

The handling off this situation has been piss poor. merging every thread into here with no sensible title is just adding to everyones frustration.

I think twill's only mistake was not explaining things well enough. If people understood the situation, they wouldn't be complaining as much as they are. They seem to think the map they're looking at now is the permanent solution, and that this was something that was planned a long time in advance. These two misconceptions should be cleared as quickly as possible.

Well, I'd think the mods/admins would rather have ONE thread than 87586735 about the same-ish thing. Yeah it sucks, but really, I can understand why.

Do you know how to read? There are a trillion threads about it and another trillion that have link to the main thread about it. They are even stickied, and it gives the reason as soon as you log on to the "My Games Page"

Now, if that is not enough, let me answer. They changed the classic, and middle earth map to avoid getting sued.

I opened a ticket asking for a refund about 10 minutes after the switch was made. I'm aware of their "absolutely no refund" policy but I would argue this is a special circumstance where they're no longer providing what was purchased.
