Don't go spamming up the GD forum pimp, your congrats should be in the General Congrats thread, set up specifically for such things. Please keep GD clear for genuine and wholesome congratulatory threads.

I didn't know that Fruitcake, as I am not really a GD regular. However, you deserve a congratulations thread for pointing that out to me. Thank you.

lol, yes..... yes he does....

Congrats for getting a lock.

Off topic and spam posts are still not cool in the GD.

Congratulations to Heavycola

Post by Juan_Bottom »

On finding a new avatar. This is doubly significant as Heavycola is the type of user to use the same avatar for a decent length of time. And since he is the first to recognize the acheivement of having the same avatar for a long time (can't share the thread [respect] link since the NYB is gone) I feel it is my priviledge to recognise his acheivement. Looking forward to enjoying your scanners avatar for many months to come sir!

For those of you who don't know....the US government is going to buy bank stocks and in essence own our banks. This is a big step toward Socialism. You have to believe this whole thing was planned out. We are screwed.

I don't know that it was all planned out... but the collapse had to have been part of someones plan. Thank you Jay for giving us a fun conspiracy to talk about. Again  ...

And honestly, I think I'm being won over to the idea that some group is pulling strings somewhere.

Ever since I first studied economics at school, I have advocated the nationalisation of the banking system. Unfortunatley for my idea, this was supposed to happen when the banking system was working, to make it more efficient.

The only argument I can reasonably see against state ownership of such a fundamental part of the economy is the "government would screw it up, private industry is more efficient" one.

Well, that one's been blown out of the water recently hasn't it?

I think that the government is responsable for this one. There was a complete lack of any government oversight, and Congress passed the bailout.
But as I said before, when I worked escrow we turned banks in all the time for taking advantage of customers and/or lieing on paperwork.... yet HUD refused to do anything about it. My boss caught a bank MANAGER forging signatures once and HUD refused to even prosecute(I think I can mention this now, right? Since I named no names?[He also notorazied the docs himself]). Then we were not allowed to tell the borrower while a notary had the correct paperwork signed by the borrower, like 3 weeks later. How can the market work when the governemnt isn't doing their job? It's not like there aren't any laws to economics, certianly even the government knew this to be the end result. I'd just like to know why they let it happen. I know it's been building for some years now... but still, why? And why would they buy all this debt with money that doesn't exist, unless they are purposely trying to bankrupt us? I'm no pro at this stuff.... but even I know not to spend money I don't have on something that doesn't have value.

It doesn't really matter as said money actually doesn't have any value anyway.

I think you know why. It's just hard to say. You know about Bilderberg and stuff right? Connecting the dots....... international bankers are in control. The money has to go. The world's economy has to collapse....in order for their NWO to emerge. One world, one government, one currency, one religion. Diversity will be frowned upon in this new world.

Yes because the banks did such a good job
I find that things tend to work better if one bases decisions on common sense rather than avoiding the bogeyman, your government is being practical rather than relying on oudated dogma which is pretty smart thinking.

Not really. Check out Charles Morris' The Trillion Dollar Meltdown for a good and educated laugh. For instance he recommends that we should just let the recession happen instead of trying to fight it.

exactly .. and yet it has a value when consensus determines so. This is the precise problem of the moment, when we boil it down a few thousand times.

Which is why Government action could in theory ease the problem.
However as the Banking practises were corruptions of the system which in turn lead to more corruptions to cover them up to pass them on. This chain letter of lies is almost irresolvable.

In a sense it may have been better to let it collapse for the long-term. But that is based on fairly brutal, Friedmanesque principles.
Some say that tinkering with interventionism actually caused the need for intervention undoubtedly Bush putting it to Congress meant that they could not not.
But 'pure' the free-market philosophy is certainly dangerous and possibly the epitome of Naivety; it is no less impossible and utopian than pure Socialism.
