2008 College Basketball Season [Winner: lardass76]

Post by flexmaster33 »

UCLA takes all three maps in the championship round to finish with a 65-20 win over Duke and claim the tournament title. Congrats to lardass76, whose team finished the season with an impressive 30-9 record.

Now, it's off to recruit this summer with renewed hopes for a title run in the 2009-10 season...hope to see many of you coaches return :)

The NCAA regional brackets are listed below, followed by the NIT bracket and the March Madness regional breakdowns.

Here is the scoring formula to be used in the NCAA tourney and the Final Four of the NIT. I've run this thing through a ton of tests and it's basically a best 2 of 3 to prevent one bad drop from sending a team home. But for the geeks like myself that want the inner workings, here's how it breaks down. :D

Image
Big maps such as Feudal, Arms Race!, etc will have some special rules to keep the scoring within check...such as dividing all armies by 2 or not counting castle bonuses on Feudal or the 50-army bonus on Arms Race. In the unexpected case of a tie, the Classic Shapes map will be used as the overtime period.

RESERVE LIST -- RULES -- TEAM LIST

Post by flexmaster33 »

The final league setup is listed below....11 leagues total. Still accepting reserves.

RESERVES LIST
emerickmachine -- cadet

TOURNEY RULES
• This is a 1 vs. 1 tourney that will follow the 2008-09 College Basketball season, playing 28-30 regular season games, followed with conference tourneys and finally the March Madness bracket which will decide our champion.

• Play is open to premium and freemium players, just make sure you have two slots available, as we will be playing at a 2-game per week pace.

• Winners of the conference tourneys automatically gain a spot in the March Madness bracket, while the rest of the field (64 teams) will be chosen by the selection committee (me) based on record and strength of schedule.
We'll also have a 32-team NIT version as a consolation playoff.

• All games will be in the traditional single-map format, until we get to the March Madness bracket which will basically be best 2-of-3 to prevent a bad drop from killing a player's entire season. I've devised an official scoring system that will be used (I'll repost it soon), but it pretty much comes down to winner 2 of the 3 maps.

• Most teams are open to everybody, but the schools with a red box to the left are reserved for ranks of Sarge or better. This is to ensure us a realistic college landscape. We have 156 total teams listed below, and I still hope to reach that number. If not, I'll just adjust and/or combine a few of the leagues to make it work.

• I hope you join the fun...I ran a similar league last year, so I have the experience to pull off a large league. When you sign-up please include your home-court settings (map, cards, forts, fog)....all games are SEQUENTIAL.

• The good thing about this tournament is that you're never really out of it. You could go 6-22 during the regular season, but get hot and win four straight in your conference tourney and get to the Big Dance. From there it's anyone's game. In fact last year #7 seed Texas reached the Final Four and #8 seed NC State reached the Elite-8.

• Also, it should be mentioned that Rumondo (Auburn) won last year's title.

I will also be looking for 10-12 reserves to jump in during the year...sign-up that way if you like...I'll be taking those after we start as well.

No worries Hawk79 (SEC), doochbagbill (any) and SNARF17WD (any) I still have you in the league....just waiting to see where you'll be the best fit.

Sorry all the posts got deleted, hopefully restarting won't be too big a mess. I think I have everyone's settings for the most part.

One more week of signups and we'll get the games started shortly after that.

Just curious, why aren't you allowing signups until November 1st, or something else closer to the start of the regular season?

I think there is a limit on how long tournmements can wait to gain people now i think.

Yes...that is correct...that is why the early deadline. Now that I've restarted the thread...I could probably push it back to Wednesday, Oct. 22. Plus, I'll want a couple days to get schedules finalized and such.

NEW DEADLINES
Sign-ups in by Wednesday, Oct. 22 (after that you'll go to the reserve list and probably get a chance at some point based on last year's experience)

Games begin Monday, Oct. 27.

There's always the option of asking a TD for more time, which I would have happily granted giving the relevant timing of his tournament. ;)

Hey there - this looks really cool. Although I'd love to be Syracuse, I'd take Oregon State or another Pac 10 School. Here's my info

Name - J Law
Map - NYC
Flat rate cards
Chained fortifacations
No Fog

Let me know if you need anything else - By the way, will the games just appear on "My Games" or will I have to search for them (I've never played in any tourney's before)

This might be the coolest tournament I've ever heard of (combining my love for college basketball and risk). A bit bummed my conference of choice isn't represented (America East) so I can't rep my school (Vermont) but such is life. I suppose there's always hope for the 2009-2010 season :P .
In the meantime I will take up the cause of Temple out of the A-10.
map of choice: Canada
Cards: flat rate
fortifications: chained
No Fog.
