Lupo wrote:you right, I misterunderstood what gavin said about the rivers...

anyway, why do not connect the central river to the ocean?

I mean, you could use bridge to connect territories that you like to border...

this was my suggestion

Definitely the first one, this is ugly. I dont like the texture of the background or the rivers or mountains. Also river next to Eure should connect to the ocean better,.

was what he said.. nothing about the central river.. why I didnt connect that one to the ocean.. because it used a series of minor rivers to get there according to the map I used.

The second one has too much texture, and all the same texture. This map has come far. Rivers don't have to be complicated, but don't look good right now. Maybe something along the lines of the ones in the Germany map?

The last one was soft. This one is too bright and looks like you put it through a washer and drier after tossing it about the room.

It is coming along Rev! I remember when you first set out on this...I didn't have much faith, to tell you the truth! But it's looking much better.

I'll comment more later, but I wanted to just throw out my vote for a convention background with Spain and the oceans, etc. I'm not a huge fan of 'hovering' maps...

I really like hovering maps, because i believe it focuses more attention on the map where it should be then on the background so chances are I wont change that.. unless by popular demand.. and a strong popular demand.

here's one without army shadows, and with a same texture for all land and ocean, voice opinion on which you prefer

At first sight without correcting the accents.

Brittany -> Bretagne
Pyranees -> Pyrénées
Burgandy -> Bourgogne
Alps -> Alpes
Picardy -> Picardie

Pais de Calais -> Pas de Calais
Some -> Somme
Loire Atlantic - Loire Atlantique
Bas Rein -> Bas Rhin
Haut Rein -> Haut Rhin
Loire -> Loiret
Lozierre -> Lozère
Hautes Vienne -> Haute Vienne (would rather be Poitou)
Pyranees -> Pyrénées
Alps -> Alpes

with me losing the xml I'm not sure what I'm going to be able to do regarding the text, but I'll see what I can do, and I think i'm going for the anglacized names on things because of lack of knowledge in french.

just a suggestion rev but try splitting the map into layers and using texture on just single layers. an entire textured map could look a bit dodgy. its lookin gd tho

well I sort of have it in layers, but I lost the psd. so these are just faux layers of what I could get out of the jpeg.

Idea: don't have the same texture for the Ocean and the land that isn't part of the map, it just looks bad.

It's a little better. Not much. Go back to the flag.

If you note the map I just posted, it isn't by popular demand it was changed back, and I agree.

Happysadfun no one liked the flag so I changed it and no one has had a problem with the changes, so the flag remains gone.

At least make it soft and flowing like the flag was. This looks life you had it in your pocket during a marathon and tried to flatten it with a small childrens' book.

I disagree, I changed the background so that it could have a different texture and bring more attention to the map/key. I have noted your opinion so if as many people hate it as much as the flag I'll change it.

Great work on that map, I was wondering why there wasn't a map of France :P

Just two remarks :

- Why put the Seine which is much smaller than the Loire
- Weird montain in the south (I understand it's for gameplay purpose ^^)

... and haute vienne is without an 's' in haute unless I am mistaken.

Somme is written with 2 m's

Lozière with one r?

Pais de Calais should be Pas de Calais.

And some of names need accent in order to be read correctly in French (Finistère, Nièvre Côte d'Or, Ardèche, Pyrenées,...)

Kyle, what are you waiting for to replace some names and armies shades, and write the xml, to show us how it would be with numbers?

Though i agree with a number of other people on the spellings of different countries, i dont think that you have gotten enough credit. i think that is a very good map, and i'd play it if it went on.
