Re: A Trip up the Nile [FULL, 1/4 Reserves] ROUND 1
Actually, I've been informed that manimal has been banned from CC, and that I'll need to either fill myself in as the reserve, or find someone else. Bummer that you don't get to.
Re: A Trip up the Nile [FULL, 1/4 Reserves] ROUND 1
I assume this tournament topic doesn't get the move over or something?
Re: A Trip up the Nile [FULL, 1/4 Reserves] ROUND 1
"the move over"?
Re: A Trip up the Nile [FULL, 1/4 Reserves] ROUND 1
When I posted that last night the topic was still in Create/Join. Problem resolved!
Re: A Trip up the Nile [FULL, 1/4 Reserves] ROUND 1
It appears Group Tiou has been on the ball and has already completed its first set of games! I'll PM the next ones now.

Re: A Trip up the Nile [FULL, 1/4 Reserves] ROUND 1
Just out of curiosity, what happens in case of a tie for second in the first round? (Or first in the second round?)
Re: A Trip up the Nile [FULL, 1/4 Reserves] ROUND 1
I will determine that when it happens. I'm averse to 1v1's, but I may have to have one if you guys play politics too heavily.
Re: A Trip up the Nile [FULL, 1/4 Reserves] ROUND 1
If you want to avoid ties, you could stagger the point system a bit more (6,3,1, for instance). I think my group might be looking at a 4-way tie.
EDIT: Nevermind, it looks like it will end up as a 2-way tie now, but there was a good chance of 4-way there.

Re: A Trip up the Nile [FULL, 1/4 Reserves] ROUND 1
Hmmm....
Okay, so I could have made it a 4-way tie if i had taken out green first, but i didn't. I decided to take out yellow first (the weaker player) and now blue and I are tied for points so far as I can count. I took the sweep on the no-cards game, though, in case that is worth a bit more than the sweep on the escalating. So now what do blue and I do about the tie?

Re: A Trip up the Nile [FULL, 1/4 Reserves] ROUND 1
There seems to be a wide-spread misunderstanding that the first round consists only of the first two games on Lower and Upper Egypt. It consists of four games, two simultaneously on Lower/Upper and then two simultaneously on Valley of the Kings/Nubia.
Regarding ties, I'd propose to add the squares of the players' points and compare the sums. That would weight victories more strongly; e.g. 1, 2, 2 and 3 points would lead to a score of 18 whereas 2, 2, 2 and 2 points would lead to a score of 16.
In case the sums of the squares are also the same, you could continue with the cubes etc. But if both players have exactly the same set of points, nothing based on the points alone can break the tie -- in that case other criteria like the No Cards/Escalating idea above or a tie-breaking game would be required. You could also count the number of times player A has survived longer than player B, but that works only for two-way ties, and with four games it's likely to again lead to a 2:2 tie.

Re: A Trip up the Nile [FULL, 1/4 Reserves] ROUND 1
Joriki's suggestions are good. I also like length of time in victory as a tie-breaker. For example, Players A and B both score 3, 2, 1, 0, but A achieved his victory in 6 rounds, whereas B won his in 10. A had the more dominant victory, so he moves on. This idea's based on the goal-differential tie-breaker they use in World Cup play.
I don't think anyone can object to a one game, 1v1 play-off on a random (Egyptian) map with tournament settings, though.

Just finished Game 3343549 (Round 1 - Group Sasf - Game 3):
1st: geigerm
2nd: japser_be
3rd: TaCktiX
4th: LLLUUUKKKEEE
Also, in our remaining game (Game 3343552), LLLUUUKKKEEE has been eliminated, so unless my math is wrong, japser_be and I will finish as the top 2 in our group, since each of us is going to have at least 6 points and our opponents won't do better than 5.

Re: A Trip up the Nile [FULL, 1/4 Reserves] ROUND 1
That is correct. We still need to await the last group for Round 2, though.
Re: A Trip up the Nile [Round 1 Ending]
Sorry, TaCktiX. I didn't realize we were supposed to be reporting results. Will do so in the future. I'm looking forward to the next round starting, as I've enjoyed things immensely thus far.
Re: A Trip up the Nile [Round 1 Ending]
Actually, the tournament is really easy to keep track of, I've been silently updating scores this entire time.

Re: A Trip up the Nile [Round 1 Ending]
Looks like cena-rules has been eliminated.... Now we're only waiting on three players! Huzzah...
Seriously good tournament, but this lag between rounds has sucked.

Re: A Trip up the Nile [Round 2]
TaCtix:
What's the tiebreaking procedure? I could easily envision a scenario where two or more players recorded the same number of points. If, say, one player had two wins, a third place finish, and a last-place finish, he'd have seven points. If someone else had three second place finishes and a third place finish, he'd also have seven points. (In this scenario, presumably, the other two players would both have fewer than seven points, meaning one of our first two players is the group winner.) Which one is determined to win the group? Most wins? Fewest last place finishes? Most times finishing ahead of the player he is tied with? Better finish on one particular map? Another game on a map to be determined? How exactly would that be determined?
It is also possible that players could end up with not only the same point total, but the exactly same positions. If, say, two players each had two wins and two third place finishes, they'd each have eight points, and they're be no way to determine a victor without another game. (Short of the "one map counts more" idea, that is.)
I apologize if you've answered this before. Clearly, I had time to type out long and confusing questions, but not time to read the thread to see if those long and confusing questions had already been answered.
