Soo...we're all going to die...apparently

Apparently.

How fun, apparently some french scientists (lol - a french scientist  ) are going to split an atom.

Apparently:

This will either cause a black hole - which obviously we'll all be crushed and die.

Or, apparently:

There'll be a big nuclear explosion and we'll all get burned to death.

OR:

daily mail - it MUST be true wrote:Two nightmare scenarios, two ends of the world. In the first, there is little warning. For maybe a month there would be no sign that life was about to come to an abrupt and nasty end for all living things on Earth.

Then, earthquakes would start unexpectedly, alerting geologists that something terrible, unimaginable, was amiss.

After a few days, these seismic disturbances would reach catastrophic proportions.

Cities would be levelled, the oceans would rise and wash in a series of mega-tsunamis that would attack the world's coasts, killing millions.

What'll it be children?

p.s oh and if theres already a topic about this, delete the other one because im more important :)

god-fucking-damnit... People shouldn't start spreading rumors that it's some sort of doomsday device unless they fully understand the science of what's going on inside.

I'd love to see a black hole up close, even if I might be screaming in anguish and panicking.

Okay, firstly you wouldn't see it cos there would be nothing to see - it's a black hole. Secondly... there is no secondly, firstly is enough :P

The only thing that will save you is a TFH (Tin Foil Hat)

Luckily for you all I have a limited supply and for the next 12 hours I will sell them to my friends at CC for half price, thats only $49.99 each, and if you act fast and order in the next 15 minutes, I will throw in a childs TFH absolutely FREE

Oh god... I told myself I would never admit this, but the situation is inevitable.

Actually the chances of the black hole happening are akin to winning the lottery, then getting struck by lightning.

Question: Forgive me for being bad with science, but how exactly is there a probability of forming a black hole? I mean, seems to me that when you do something it either does or does not form a black hole, not possibly form a black hole. Are we talking about the odds of me walking through a wall kind of odds or what? What kind of number juggling led to this possibility?
