Re: No Points For New Recruit Deadbeats *To-Do*
Better to give new players some more direction about how and what to play. Maybe a new player game with mentors for the first game would clean up this problem quickly.

Though i really do like the sentiment, I do not think that is possible logistically to have every new player mentored by an established and trusted member of the community.
In a sense that did often happen in the old system; where new-players were allowed to join all team-games.
As a player who experienced the frustration of new players not turning-up, not listening or listening and doing the opposite... hours of waiting, 'UPPER CASE' team gamechat requests to not be attacked etc etc.
I do not think it is desirable... if i am completely honest
Re: No Points For New Recruit Deadbeats *To-Do*
Sounds like you are playing some young kids. Try more classic map games. As to the mentors, maybe the moderators could ask for volunteers and see what happens.

heheh no mate.. team games used to allow anyone to join, including brand new players who often did not play a single round.
(i have tried many different maps.)
There is already a mentor system but there is no way that it could keep up with the influx of every new player.

How about their points are at play if they have taken two or more turns in any single game? This increases the likelihood that these people are going to continue playing, but stops those people who come on for a day and ditch even though they have taken 4 turns, one in each of their games.

hmm that would be better but sometimes players may take 2 rounds before they get disillusioned with how long a game takes and then leave forever.
Perhaps if they miss 3 consecutive turns in any of their first 4 games the points do not count for that game.
And then, once they begin a 5 th game, their points come into play as normal with no restriction.

In short, the only difference between this and the original suggestion is that it's not new recruits, it's new recruits on their 5th game and above?

New recruits before their 5th game.
So If it is one of their first 4 games AND they do not set up a 5th game within a set period.
No points scored from the Brand new players if they miss 3 consecutive turns and Deadbeat in that game.
Re: No Points For New Recruit Deadbeats *To-Do*
I suppose even more simply:
Points only become live after a new player initiates a 5th game.

hehe yeah Ex .. but it is kind of the opposite to what you said (i think) .... anyway your interjection has inspired simplicity!
Understandably that seems to be what Lack looks for to make stuff live!

i reckon this is lovely! I realise this on the To-do list but are you working on it Lack? is the discussion helping you etc.?

Re: No Points For New Recruit Deadbeats *To-Do*
i think the orginal idea was best
if someone beats a new recruit that deadbeats they shouldnt be given their points (the new recruit should still lose points but nobody should gain them)

I know what you mean but the problem with that is that a new player, irritated at losing the points, could 'punish' the victor by deadbeating.
"Yeas I still lose the points but at least that [insert expletive] does not get them"
If you have a time-frame for the points becoming live, it cuts down on the abuse of New players but still takes the points into the system when they decide to stay in the system.
Re: No Points For New Recruit Deadbeats *To-Do*
What happens if you are clearly about to win the game and that pisses off the new recruit and he deadbeats? Does that mean you don't deserve the points just because it was a new recruit and not anyone else?

Re: No Points For New Recruit Deadbeats *To-Do*
yeah i do not think it is a good idea because there are a lot of different game types and a lot of different situations where a player could deserve the points despite a deadbeat

Re: No Points For New Recruit Deadbeats *To-Do*
good idea in theory, but needs work
how about you just disallow new recruits to join/start 1v1s? seems simplest and most direct approach.. if they wanna play 1v1s too bad-suck it up, play 4 games, then go crazy

Re: No Points For New Recruit Deadbeats *To-Do*
Is it bad in 1v1 then Paddy?
I was concerned about people just starting big multi-player games to strip New- players who all deadbeat (never to return) of their points...
hehe actually Klobber is banned .. i no longer care
.. keep that point inflation comin!

I think its a bad idea .Some of these player take the first or second turns in a game then deadbeat .Destroy a chance of winning for another player by attacking a safe spot etc .
For the merger 6 points you'll get for killing them I think its fair .

Highest Rank 4th.
Re: No Points For New Recruit Deadbeats *To-Do*
the idea that someone would make no points for playing against a noob who decides to deadbeat is ridiculous. As a freemium, you are given 4 games which you can play; if someone posts a game and a noob decides to join it, then not only is that person who created the game screwed for the three days which he has to wait for the slot to open up, but he would then get no points for the game. How does that seem fair? I have been in a lot of games where right after I basically won, the noob gave up and deadbeated...why is it right that after taking the risk of possibly losing 80 points to the noob and actually putting in the time and effort to win, i would then be rewarded by winning no points.
the only thing that this rule will do is make it less enjoyable for the noobs who will have a much more difficult time filling their games, and promote noobs to deadbeat out of a game when it is clear that they have lost. I have been ask on numerous occasions if it is possible to exit a game after it was clear that they lost, and I am imagining how many of them would have stayed and finished if I told them that if they deadbeat out, they wont lose any points.

max you got this wrong its for a new recruit that never even plays a turn. if he plays a turn then deadbeats he loses points.

no, this is for anyone that hasn't finished 5 games, and deadbeats, sorry, but your strategy is fucked
Re: No Points For New Recruit Deadbeats *To-Do*
From my observations in the games I play, a lot of the time, the reason why a new recruit doesnt show up is because he is waiting for a friend of his to join. With the proposal that new recruits not be allowed to start one on ones, they are no longer enabled to play with their friends at all. So basically, wit the ideas suggested, you are first saying that noobs shouldnt be allowed to play one on one against their friends, for whom the joined, and in another idea, you are virtually giving noobs the ability of starting a private game, as the dont have to play any games without the person whom they are waiting for, without repercussion
hardly seems fair to me

I like manimals take on the suggestion. It prevents points being won from new recruits that didn't bother to show up to play a single round.
I am pretty sure that the majority of new recruit deadbeats are in the 8 player games. That is because they join the game, find out that it hasn't started (spots left waiting to fill) and leave due to boredom. I don't think that manimals suggestion would actually affect 1v1 noob farmers at all- max. 1v1 freestyle games started by new recruits are quickly gobbled up by the noob farmers. Thus, the games start very quickly and the new recruits play their first turn...
Revisal for suggestion by Math: "No points for new recruit deadbeats that don't play a turn".
