Early foundry history
What was the first map quenched, and who made it? How did the Foundry work in the very beginning? I'm kinda curious as to how things were in the beginning...

Re: Early foundry history
I think it was Middle East that was quenched 1st although maps weren't really quenched back then though Lack just loaded them when he thought they were ready it was quite a while before the monkey appeared on the scene. This all just comes from reading over the older maps perhaps one of the ancients could enlighten us more

Re: Early foundry history
When I first joined (which wasnt too long ago
) there were no subforums, so FF maps just had [Final Forge] in the title. I also remember AoM had a poll about DiM's third eye, and I remember no one knowing what to do with Doodle Earth's territory names. I joined with Keyogi (old CA) was still around, and gimil didnt have a map quenched.
I dont know much of the early history, but I kinda remember what was going on when I joined! (May 2007)

Re: Early foundry history
Well, I came in about a year before the rest of you guys, I think.
I don't remember too much, cause I didn't pay much attention to the foundry back then, other to come in and browse the new maps.
I remember when W2.1 (originally W2.0) was a new map, I remember Australia starting production, and many other maps that had just started out.
From what I remember about the organization of this place.... there was none.
or at least very little organization, apart from what mapmakers did themselves.
No subforums, no stamps, just all the active topics in the same page.
It was a bit better back then, at least in some ways. There were only ever 5-10 maps in production in the early days. And with them all on a single page, they all got a lot of attention, because forge maps (they might not have had forge back then, I don't remember) were all in the same place as new map ideas.

Re: Early foundry history
I'd tell you all about the Foundry History, but this post wouldn't be long enough.
But if you've specific questions, I may be able to answer 'em.

For starters, as the thread maker asked, what was the first map quenched(uploaded)?

Re: Early foundry history
CC was launched with: Classic, Asia, and USA.
I was just beginning my first wanderings around CC when the first maps went up. There is a topic or post somewhere that lists the order, but I don't recall where.
Middle East went live on March 14th, 2006. Brazil went live on March 23rd, 2006 I believe...and Canada and Europe perhaps on the same date too.
As for "Official Quenchings," I think Jota's Space Map was the first to be Quenched by this Monkey.

Damnit gimil, why did you tell Andy that he was a monkey
Re: Early foundry history
Was there a Map Foundry forum at all? What were the original requirements for a map to go live/be quenched? Would Paint have been accepted?

By the look of the current Brazil map, I think yes. From what I understand, the original Middle East was even worse.

Seriously, this wouldn't even have gotten the Ideas stamp in the current Foundry.
