I am currently playing my first BritIsles game. I have to say that map is a piece of crap (e.g. like DOS next to WinXP) and not just because I'm losing. The new one looks excellent!

I haven't (obviously) read all of the posts on this map, but am I the only one who really, really, really, really likes the old map -- really? The old map is clean, straightforward, with friendly colours, and for a non-Brit, accurate enough for my tastes. (Oh! So that's where the Isle of Wight is!) British Isles is one of my favourite maps, but I'm really turned off by the radical change to the look of the map, and suspect I will be playing it far less. Maybe I just find it too washed out (like that Feudal Wars map, which I still haven't played because every time I look at it, I feel I need to clean the algae off my screen). Whatever the case, please consider this a no vote.

Note that this doesn't mean that I don't think the map maker hasn't done an amazing job. The map is very pretty, and I actually really like the inset map that shows the position in the larger world. I also like how some of the bodies of water are named.

But I don't want to play the new map. The original is one of the first maps I played, because it stood out and looked friendly. This one, while very nice to look at, doesn't make me want to play it.

Sorry -- it's clear this revamp took a lot of work and care. But, no thank you.

The new one looks nicer, but in terms of gameplay it's easier to see what you're doing on the old one.

I like the old one.

Gimil you're a genius.

British Isles is one of my favourite maps, but when I started playing it I was confused at some of the impassible borders and annoyed at some of the odd county names. You have done an excellent revamp and I am already looking forward to playing it.

If I were to be finicky, I would like to see the colours just a little bit less washed out and "Avon" changed to "Bristol", which is now a county and a city. Avon was replaced in the 1990's.

But this is still a great update. Keep up the good work! :ugeek: =D>

I know this is a silly comment, and I'd like to preface it by saying I don't know about Hadrian's wall... but wouldn't it make more sense if it was flipped? If the wall was built to protect from attack from the North, shouldn't the support pillars be on the South side?

Again, nothing important. I'm just anal. And I assume the mapmakers are as well.

I prefer the old oNE. I know we cannot have al the counties but putitng Midlands over North-West is just wrong:D

I think the old ones are more "made-up" than historical!

Ive redid the graphics. The same style just tidier and better organised. Expect it to appear later.

Actually, I think they're in the middle of the wall (integral, as opposed to one side or the other). The perspective, though, without significant shading for the middle edges, makes it look otherwise. If you look at the left-hand pillar (or is it really a tower?), you can see that the line of the wall bisects it.

The wall looks heaps better than any of the earlier versions I remember; although the pillars are playing tricks with my eyes, giving it a sort of 'optical illusion' effect...

Some of your mountains are crossing the River Severn and appearing in Avon... A little bit of a tidy-up should fix that though ;-)

Its the perspective, the old BI map worked with a wall because the map was made at an angle while mines is a straight forward top down veiw!

Gim - why is this map so soft / desaturated. It's like a ghost map or something?

I completely disagree. I think the new wall look sway too big and thick and out of place.

Ghost map. Heh heh.
But I think RJ might be right gim.
Take a look at this more contrasted version. It seems like something to this effect could do the map a lot of good:

One thing that's always confused me about Hadrian's Wall is the attack routes. The borders don't make it clear which territory can attack which, if you see what I mean. It's almost like a four-way border...

I'd like to see the one-way arrows go over the wall to clear up any confusion.

that might be really ugly though. And, I'm not a fan of this wall as is.

You know, you and your call critique really d make my life difficult ;)

I may have to ditch the 3D wall for a birds eye view replacement.

sorry man. the wall just feels off.

I do also like the version pep posted. I'm not sure if that's an old version or something pep did but I think it's a good idea.
