So the popular stuff is shit huh?
Is it popular because it's shit? Are these fake gangsters the ones with the fame because of their depiction of women/violence/drugs?
I wonder...
Popular music is almost always shit.
You made a general statement and avoided the real question.
Let me pose it again:
You agree that some Rap is misogynistic (namely popular Rap). Is it popular because it endorses violence, materialism and misogyny? Furthermore, are the music producers and managers guilty of encouraging this trend in order to make a quick buck, regardless of whether the rappers themselves actually believe in what they sell?

Sure. But you can't go around saying that all food from a certain country is shit just because you've had a few bad snacks.
Nor have I.
Anyone with a modicum of intelligence would know that I was refering to only those songs and videos depicting women negatively, something I continued to say in following posts. Interestingly enough studies have shown that even non-misogynistic rap still causes misogynistic feelings towards women - possibly due to the association already established.
And I'm not saying gangsta rap is an instigator but merely a perpetrator - does that make it any less potent or culpable?
Snorri1234 wrote:mandyb wrote:As for this thread, I started, not because I know all about it, but because I thought it was an interesting subject for discussion.
Making blanket statements on something you know nothing about is generally a bad idea for a thread. There was no discussion in your original post, it was a statement saying "lol, rappers hate broads".You have done nothing towards proving me overwhelmingly wrong whatsoever,
In regards to the "Is Rap misogynisitc?"-question, yes he has.
Now then Snorri, there was no 'lol-ing' in my first post - it was catagorically humour free, I assure you.
And dave actually did agree with me - back up a couple of his posts and you'll see. He just didn't want to write off the music becase of it.
He also made this point :
See, the real issue here isn't the music, it's that idiot sheltered white kids imitate what was never meant to be imitated. And it's that kind of bullshit that gets headlines.
Those idiot white kids make up the majority of the buying for gangsta rap.
So, who is at fault here?
Is it the teenage suberbanites that finance the sexism and abuse, or the rappers that, for the amusement of the public, sell their fantasies of female domination and portray women as empty-headed, money grabbing sex objects that deserve to be mistreated?
Since I'm posting on a subject I 'know nothing about', perhaps you could tell me.
