Yes, It is nice to have people actively state that they will listen to each other in order to exchange ideas politely.

Re: A new private civil discussion forum
well, i think you are headed down the wrong road with your poll... many of the best and sharpest minds on CC have been banned at one time or another for butting heads with the admins or mods. to be even more direct, a member of my clan received a warning for quoting war and peace in a thread, because it flew over the mods head who gave him the warning. you need to be very careful when you start excluding people for transgressions over written words they have posted. perhaps you could browse questionable applicants posts and make a better decision that way. i know i for one would be excluded, detlef would be excluded, dancing mustard would be excluded, and even FRUITCAKE would be excluded, by the way your poll is shaping. i dare any of you to tell me that fruitcake would not be a worthy addition to such an endeavor. you really need to re-evaluate or clarify what it is you are saying with your poll or you are going to exclude many of the people that have pressed for civil discussions in the GD for quite some time. anyway, here is an attempt at a civil discussion in the GD... have a gander:

Okay I see what you mean. I t seems though that we are operating from two different paradigms. As I understand it, this idea sprang from the Chatterbox more than GD. In the CB, there are certain stances that are sure to bring scorn and mockery regardless of how well thought out and plausible they are. I think this was more of a response to that.

No problem, so long as any other member discussed in such a "private" forum has a full opportunity to read the discussion and participate. It is the first rule of civil discussion, never talk behind a person's back, up front, direct discussion is always the best remedy.
Sounds like a forum version of "singing to the choir." More power to yuh.

I see what you mean. I certainly think that's the idea here though. Like anything else, though, It's worth a try to see how it works out.

Yes, but I haven't received a response back yet. I was also told to pm King Achilles. He hasn't responded either. My feeling is that conquer club's admin is tending to other issues right now but eventually will get around to it.
My feeling on this is that in order to make it happen we need to keep pm'ing the admin and making some noise. That seems the only way to make positive changes in all of life, not just here on CC.

I thought we be discussing religion, politics, ideas, etc. not other members. That was my impression, anyway.

I heard that Lack is away right now, so that might have something to do with it.

Great, my point only is that a civil discussion would not focus on members who could not defend themselves in the discussion. Seems a reasonable rule.

I started my own usergroup about a month ago, and it took quite a few weeks before it actually was created
Sent my eticket June 22, I think. the group didnt start till July 14
Maybe pestering the mods would work. I just kept quiet and it took over three weeks to get going...
anyway, sign me up for this group. It'd be nice to get away from the trolls for a bit.

I'm pretty sure that the OP is just sick of having his ass handed to him over and over again in the other threads.
Why won't this end up with the same "problems?"
Serious discussions? It's the F-ing internet. You're not working to change the world through CC forums. Why not join MSNBC or something?
I call bullsh*t. You might be sick of having your threads turn to mush, but if that's the case start a clan to specifically talk about BINGO or whatever. But a clan(or whatever this is) to talk about everything save conspiracies and religion is retarded.

As i understand it`s not that he doesn`t want to discuss those topics, but he would rather avoid the personal attacks, one-liner sarcastic responses(and sarcastic images), people just writing to say that your post is too long, smilie abuse(please tell me you won`t tolerate smilie abuse, please?
He`s probably trying to eliminate the general "I`m so much smarter than you that it`s not even worth my time to respond to your petty obnoxious questions, so i`ll post a cat(or 30 smilies) instead" attitude.
This might work, but rules will be needed. I also think 3 strikes=out should be used. The question is, how do you define a strike?
Anyway, if you`ll have me, i`d like to join this, might work out pretty well.

Re: A new private civil discussion forum
Creating a whole 'nother forum with a three strike rule?
Not a clan? Should a mod move this to GD?
I'm not saying that I'm for or against this, but it seems like a butt-load of work. Wouldn't it kill the all of other threads anyway? And if you have to sign up, why not just make it a clan thing? Seems to me like things would just be simpler if you ignored the bastard people in the forums that we already have. Or if these new rules could just be applied to the forums already in existance. With the exception of FW, of course.
I just can't seem to justify adding more forums, and private at that....

Lackattack might be slow to move on some things, but he's pretty much moving in the right direction with this site. Good things take time and this sounds like a good idea, protected. wcaclimbing gives some good insight on this matter.

Usergroups requests should be taken care of much more speedily now...wca caught us during a time of slow transition. And sometimes there are problems with the e-ticket system, so if you don't get an answer within a couple of days or a week, resend it incase it didn't get through.

Thanks for the response.
At least it was just me, not the rest of the forums. It would be kinda boring around here if everyone's group requests took that long to finalize.
Glad to hear they will be going faster.

Well.....it would be just a usergroup wouldn't it?
That said, I think you guys are just pussying out. The sarcastic one-liners and images are usually a result of a particularly ignorant post by someone else. I don't take the time to respond by a post from THORNHEART or Jay or whatever with: "Dear friend, while I respect your opinion and think you bring up an excellent point, I must disagree with you on the smallest of issues concerning your post." That is just futile.
The problem is not the sarcastic remarks, it's the idiots who draw them. I have no idea why I would respond to the more reasonable people on this forum with sarcastic remarks, but some people just provoke that rage in me that says "I can't believe he just said something so profoundly stupid! It hurts my brain reading it! I'm sure it killed of a few braincells."
I can't believe everyone is jumping without a concise description of what this is.
A fine point. If you want to start a discussion-group with reasonable civil debate I'm telling you right now that it will never work. The civil debaters on this forum already either agree or agree-to-disagree on most things, group would be dead within a month.

wow, this is the same guy that disagrees with me in a thread about avatars and posted this:
I block owenshooter and don't read his posts or pms, so I have no idea what he is saying. Yes, America is the land controlled by white people, at least for the time being. However, more importantly, our dominant culture is white and encourages the kind of jingoistic sentiment that is implied in these avatars. I do understand the the Muslim avatar was a reaction to the refusal to ban the black face avatar. I am glad you live here, never meant to imply otherwise.
i haven't called him names, ridiculed him, or violated any forum rules. i responded to each of his posts in a calm and rational way.. yet, since i disagree with him, he has me blocked? he is a WONDERFUL fit for your group... good luck with this... i was very interested, but if this is the type of discussion that is going to occur, no thanks.-0

I can't wait for this thing to become a reality.
