Expand 'Team How To Play' *To-Do*

Post by qeee1 »

Hey, it doesn't say much about doubles or triples in the "How to Play" section. When I first came I was confused as to how continent bonuses and fortifying worked for doubles (I didn't know that the armies I fortified to my teammate became theirs), and I reckon it's a common problem. So for the new players maybe you could add a line or two about it?

Yeah, in my first team game, I thought that you could share a continent, since it doesn't really make sense for your soldiers to have to kill your teammates soldiers for it. Also, I remember expecting to be able to fortify through my teammate's territory, in an "unlimited" fortification game.

The limited documentation on Doubles and Triples... just left me confused

If someone was to do a quick-guide to team-play... I would be grateful.

No need to give away your strategies... just a run-down on the basics.

okay a revamping of the How To page illustrated with screenshots and expanded help on team games in officially on my to-do list.

Also I plan to put pop-up help buttons next to game options so you can see what something means on-the-spot.

yeah. i wish i could quit my job and do this full time but i would have to move out of my apartment and into a cardboard box.

mind you, i could probably set my cardboard box next to a starbucks and get free wireless internet which would be a step up from my old-fashioned dialup

Yeah, I'm a bit intimidated by the whole Team game thing... my only experience was benignly stupid (i.e. everyone else deadbeated 16376), but sorta worried about teammates deadbeating. Do most of you who play co-op only play private games to avoid this? Or not play until you hear some chatter at least from your teammate? Or is it just a risk you take when you play cooperative that someone's going to join and be of no help at all? Well, on the plus you wouldn't feel as bad about killing him.

Was going to suggest this, but looks like all i need to do is support this thread. Yes it is needed. I just played a game where im pretty sure my partner didnt know about the whole fortifying and attacking opponents countries, and didnt seem to view the game chat of me telling him numerous times that you could. We ended up holding 22men worth of continents, but didnt get the bonuses.

Another team specific rule which could be clarified is what happens if your team-mate decides to deadbeat. Do you take control of their armies? If it's 3 players, do they get split between both remaining players? Do they go neutral? Do they take on a life of their own and spontaneously massacre all remaining players, regardless of former affiliation? Do they disappear and leave the countries they occupied empty, ready for conquest by any player? Do they actively pursue the deadbeat player throughout the rest of their games, seeking retribution for leaving them stranded without a commander? These things confuse me, and sometimes keep me awake late at night...

I updated the Game Options section of the Instructions to clarify these points (and it only took me a bit more than 4 years to do!)

To play a team game, try doubles, triples and quadruples. Quadruples games must be played with 8 players, triples games with 6 players, doubles games with 4 or 6 or 8. Teammates are determined by the sequence of players, for example the first two players and second two players make up two teams in a doubles game. In team games, you can deploy on your teammate's regions and reinforce to your teammate's adjacent regions (but not through them). The score is calculated per team. When a player is auto-kicked in a team game, the first surviving teammate inherits the troops and spoils. In team games, zone bonuses must be held by a single player to have effect.
