i thought it was pretty funny, though i think a lot of people *including obama himself) lost the message of the picture. the picture isn't criticizing obama, it's actually making fun of all the people who attack him with silly accusation (i.e. he's a terrorist, his wi'fe a nappy headed ho' from da hood, he burns american flags, etc. of course now everyone who didn't take half a minute and think about the cartoon instead is instantly jumping on the racism bandwagon. btw, it wasn't the new york times...

NY Times are fucking IDIOTS. They completely fucked up a friend's life by printing a story about him and refusing to hide his identity when terrorists and whack-job extremists here in the US are going to now be after him because of the story. They also embellished part of the story to sensationalize it. I refuse to read anything those lying idiot nutjobs ever publish again.

It's the New Yorker. That's all I have to say because I don't care about it. But get your shit straight.

I was so worried I would read through this entire thread and no one would mention this.

The mistake indicates that most of the people commenting have 1. Never read the most important newspaper in the United States; 2. Never read the most important literary journal in the United States.

That worried me too, and I hadn't even heard of this. I've googled it now, and all I have to say is wow. Just wow.

This thread and the world in general...

So, the picture was intended ironically, according to a few googled sources, but many worry that it might be taken literally (a "recruitment poster" for the right); what does everyone think about this?

Here it is, in case anyone missed it...

I knew it was the New Yorker, i just saw an oppty to bash the NY times and took it. And no way in HELL the Ny Times is the most important newspaper anywhere except the bottom of a bird cage. They're lying bastards, but I digress...

I think it's quite obviously satire, given that it is the New Yorker.

I mean seriously. How could this be taken the wrong way? Even if someone decides to kill him or something because of it, it's not like they weren't on the edge to begin with. And that's a rather huge if.

This is a joke. It is mocking the ignorant who didn't know what the "fist bump" was!

Can you believe there are actually people out there who thought that it was some kind of "secret cult handshake"?

Why does it say "July 21" when it's only the 17th, it's obviously a conspiracy!
