That shift of the Canadian border looks much better IMO- no need for any kind of barrier like a lake now.

I think the connection from Cuba to Florida is unclear because of the army shadow though. It's like the Albania-Italy connection in the Europe map- you can see it but just barely because the army shadow covers it up, and people will no doubtedly say there is no connection. Perhaps moving the shadow to the right....or better yet, moving the border to the left would solve that problem.

I just noticed a problem in the Sudan Somalia region- I don't believe they are meant to connect but there is a double border (light and dark gray) around the outside of Ethiopia, which makes it look like there should be a strip of land between those borders. I'm assuming you meant to have the two borders coincide and only the dark gray sub continent border visible.

Per Sully800's suggestions; Updated Cuba/Florida connection to avoid confusion. Also removed cleaned up remains of Djibouti and Eritrea which suggested a Sudan/Somalia attack might be possible.

Also fixed XML to add Prairies/Western USA route.

Nice fix with the Cuba/Southern USA border. It is much more visible now.

Unfortunately I just noticed the same thing with the Yemen Somalia border. I hadn't even realized the connection was there until I checked the XML to see if Yemen bordered any African countries.

I think the problem is that the army shadows, over seas borders and ocean color are all very similar. I think it would be better if you changed the over seas connection lines to a darker gray (perhaps the same color as the borders of the sub continents) so it would stand out better against the color of the water. At the same time this would make the connections more visible even if they were beneath an army shadow. That might require you moving some country names that currently sit on top of the borders because the grays would be too close to keep legibility. All small fixes but I think it would help, because I find myself having to squint to see many of the short connections in crowded areas (Taiwan-China, Sumatra-Thailand are also hardly visible because they are so short)

the amount of work you must have put into this is incredible, and i hold you in high esteem for doing so. i think that once its done, this could be one of the best maps on cc

I still think adding the Baltics to Scandinavia would make it more valuable.

Good suggestion and done. It's definitely clearer and it's growing on me aesthetically. Let me know if I've missed any I think after about seven iterations I've got them all but....

Happy, I don't want to re-hash the debate on sub-continent membership (frankly I'm not sure I remember the rationale on this particular one, I vaguely recall it being around the definition of "Scandinavia" but bygones {though a "search a thread" would be cool}) at this stage. As long as you don't feel it's a critical flaw in the game play I'd prefer to leave it as is.

Aside from the minor connection point missed that Enigma pointed out, and perhaps a moving Mongolia's name a little bit north so it isn't on the border, this map is looking better and better.

Lets do another XML test/check to make sure they are all properly aligned.

Andy et al,

Here are updated images correcting the Greenland link and moving Mongolia for greater legibility.

I haven't been able to check the XML as it appears (at least from my end) that Jota's tools at http://www.conquerclub.com/mapmaker/index.php are borked at the moment. The XML checker reports errors that aren't there and the map/alignment checker fails to a blank screen. Maybe a result of the server move?

Anyway I locked the shadow layer so as not to move any of them during the recent changes so the previous XML at http://www.zims.com/blog/images/vfv7.xml should be fine.

Zim, the program problem revolves around the Brazil/Space bug that we still have from the new server change. We should get it fixed soon. Until then, hold tight.

Looking a little closer at the map, is there any way to move Turkey's name to make it slightly easier to read?

Also I think it still may be hard to tell that Taiwan is a part of the Far East. Perhaps you could nudge the army shadow and show a hint more of blue?
