[Done] change color of star for players needing re-rating
Specifics:
Previously suggested you list those ready for re-rating (that is, those you have just finished playing, but have rated previously) seperately, but perhaps an easier fix is to just give them a different color??
This will improve the following aspects of the site:
Right now, once someone is rated, their start shows up as yellow, even when you play them again. For people who play a lot of games (i.e. your paid members) this is a royal pain.
I am hoping the above is a qick enough fix that it could be employed right away. If not, and if other ideas will change the whole dynamic, then disregard or delete this suggestion.

Re: change color of star for players needing re-rating
So like, when I'm looking at the list of people I can rate in a game, People not rated are silver, people I just rated from this game are gold, and people I have rated from previous games are something else, like copper or bronze?
Makes sense to me. i like it.

Lackattack has added this to his To-Do list. What is the best way to show this information? We need some brainstorming.

Re: [To-Do] change color of star for players needing re-rating
Well, I say you leave yellow as the color for the players you have rated. Then, if you play them again a week or two later, when the game is done, the stars come up as perhaps a blue color? Any other color would work too I think.
So, I finish a game and on the My Games page it says "You can rate 5 members."
I go to my Recently Finished tab and see that 3 of those 5 players are gray at the moment signifying that it is the first time I rated them. I also see that the other 2 players from that game are now showing a blue star, which means I have played them before, and might want to take a moment to see if I want to adjust the rating accordingly. If I do change the rating, they turn back to a yellow star immediately.
If I never change the ratings, or if I never look at them for the 2 players with blue stars, they stay blue until the game is archived and then automatically revert back to yellow.
Seems simple enough.

^ I was about to suggest exactly that... Gold=Rated, Blue=Re-rate, Grey=Unrated

I like this, but what about the following, too:
Unrated -- blank/white
rated, mixed ratings yellow
rated, all 1's red
Rated, all 5's blue
You could still re-rate, but I think a lot of folks are moving things up to all 5's ... that is, play someone a few times with nice games and you no longer need to change the rating. They are already all 5's.
Similarly, someone who gets all 1's is probably someone you won't play again ...

I'd rather see the simpler color system proposed by Optimus. That simpler it is, the more likely it will get changed.

Tell me exactly how it gets any simpler than just having the star change to a new color if you have rated them before? You don't want a bunch of different colors, then things just get confusing and look cluttered. All you need is a simple way to quickly distinguish for a player that they have rated someone previously is all.

Re: [To-Do] change color of star for players needing re-rating
My post was in response to the PLAYER's addition of 1's and 5's, not the above solution suggested by you and endorsed by Mr. Benn and Cicero.
I suppose since I used "a" instead of "the," you misread.
Fixed now.

I see what your saying but multi colors would be nice mabey even one when you played someone say 5 times and can make a fair assesment of there long term game play.

Since no one seems to understand the meaning of my post, I like Optimus Prime's, and my support is behind it. I like HIS SIMPLE system, over the one we are currently using, but PLAYER's is a little beyond simple.

Re: [To-Do] change color of star for players needing re-rating
I like Optimus, etc ... that is what I first envisioned.
white -- never rated
blue -- rated before, but ready for re-rating
yellow -- rated/updated
The different color for all 5's came up because I realized that a lot of people I play lots have all 5's ... and it might be nice for me to know I don't have to change their ratings. BUT, I can see your point, too.

Okay, now it makes sense.
Re: [To-Do] change color of star for players needing re-rating
Yeah I agree... the 3 colour system works for me...
Does Yellow - Blue - White/Grey work for Colour Blind people?

Well that depends upon what colours they have problems with.
But IIRC the most common one is red-green and the less common one is blue-yellow (and total being really uncommon) so perhaps a Grey - Red - Yellow system would be better than one using Blue.

How about half-gold, half-grey for re-ratings?

Re: [To-Do] change color of star for players needing re-rating
I think half-colored stars would get a bit too cluttered looking.
I'd prefer the grey-gold-blue system OP posted, as long as that is ok for colorblind people. if not, grey-gold-red would work for me.

I can see from a design point of view why this is a good idea...
However from an aesthetics point of view - I dislike it!

Star colour distinction - new ratings/old rating
Would like to see a colour distinction between old (previously assigned) ratings and new ratings.
Specifics:
Since only one rating is allowed for each player (something else i would like to see changed - why not have multiple ratings allowed (one for each game played) and an average rating used) (sorry, perhaps another thread). To continue: since only one rating is allowed per player, it is difficult to distinguish when looking at completed games whether the star rating shown is new or old. Why not change the colour of the rating stars to show a previously assigned rating and not one assigned in the current game list. I hope I am making myself clear. Any thoughts?

[To-Do] change color of star for players needing re-rating merged with

Both threads contain the same basic suggestion.

Re: Star colour distinction - new ratings/old rating
Seems most folks like 3 colors .. sounds fine.
Would yellow/green/white be better for the color blind issue? Perhaps more of a dark green, rather than flourescent?
Or would purple work instead of the yellow (or the green?) -- either a "bright" violet type shade or a darker shade?

Re: Star colour distinction - new ratings/old rating
Another idea, which might be more trouble to program than its worth would be to use shapes and color changes.
That is, squares for unrated, circles for rated, but can rate again and stars for "done deal".
