Damn you Corn Wally!

Good point. NOOOTTTTT!!!!!!!!
It was the Nazi's right to kill Jews because they were the "authority." Nueremburg was a joke. --->Little off and dark, but you get the point.

Firstly, none of us were there. So, what do you care? Secondly, I think you are forget the 300 years of ass woopings that followed. Including the English during the war of 1812. Or the Spanish-American war where we kicked a world powers ass right out of our hemisphere(the English certainly weren't coming back, and the French learned pretty quick too, thanks to Napoleon)....And I think there were a couple of world wars that weren't looking so great for the English..... At this point you're nation is practically a protectorate of ours. Might as well call your country "Big Puerto Rico." :P
This is a pretty pointless discussion fellas. Stop trying to de-rail the thread and piss Americans off. It's just bad form.

America Rules!!!! And the fourth is the best holiday ever!

:-^
In 1814 we took a little trip
Along with Colonel Jackson down the mighty Mississip.
We took a little bacon and we took a little beans
And we caught the bloody British in the town of New Orleans.

[Chorus:]
We fired our guns and the British kept a'comin.
There wasn't nigh as many as there was a while ago.
We fired once more and they began to runnin' on
Down the Mississippi to the Gulf of Mexico.

We looked down the river and we see'd the British come.
And there must have been a hundred of'em beatin' on the drum.
They stepped so high and they made the bugles ring.
We stood by our cotton bales and didn't say a thing.

[Chorus]

Old Hickory said we could take 'em by surprise
If we didn't fire our muskets 'til we looked 'em in the eye
We held our fire 'til we see'd their faces well.
Then we opened up with squirrel guns and really gave 'em ... well

[Chorus]

Yeah, they ran through the briars and they ran through the brambles
And they ran through the bushes where a rabbit couldn't go.
They ran so fast that the hounds couldn't catch 'em
Down the Mississippi to the Gulf of Mexico.**

We fired our cannon 'til the barrel melted down.
So we grabbed an alligator and we fought another round.
We filled his head with cannon balls, and powdered his behind
And when we touched the powder off, the gator lost his mind.

[Chorus]

Yeah, they ran through the briars and they ran through the brambles
And they ran through the bushes where a rabbit couldn't go.
They ran so fast that the hounds couldn't catch 'em
Down the Mississippi to the Gulf of Mexico.**

No, you misunderstood my point. The english were the plucky underdogs, and we lost, fair enough.
But I don't understand why the yanks feel its such a big deal :

"Ooo, lets celebrate when we got the superpower to help us to beat the english".

I mean, yeah well done, quel surprise!

I realize that as an Englishmen you probably haven't been compelled to read the histories of independance of other Nations, but HUH?

NO WAY the English were the "underdogs." Even with the late-to-the-party-French, America was the underdog. I would much sooner concede that it was Spain that finally 'politically' did the crown in.

http://www.historyplace.com/unitedstate ... htm-little bullited history here, but carefull, the 'little details' are all missing..

Why are Americans allowed to take the piss out of everybody else but get their knickers in a twist when we take the piss out of them.

Is it double standards, arrogance or ignorance?

Whether metric is "good" is subject to debate. Clearly having a system on the same base as your number system is a better system. But both systems are in general based on arbitrary things.

I for one am willing to straddle between both worlds. A pint of beer and a 750 litre bottle of scotch. Life is good. (As long as I don't accidentally hit the MPG - Km/Hr button on my car and start driving down the local road at 30 Km/Hr wondering why the heck I'm going slower than the people who are walking past me.)

More annoyed with the Brits that posted in this thread then anything. I mean, not like I was really asking for too much. Just that people could wish each other a Happy Independence Day and have a fun day. But then again, I really shouldn't be surprised since it is in those people's blood (the Brits who posted in this thread) that they just can't let this thing go. After all, you're the ones who brought up the whole "Yanks beats us, but we don't care!" in such a way that you were obviously annoyed at something that no one from the US had even brought up. All we were doing was what I had wanted this thread to do.

So yeah, annoyed, but not really angry.

Look, it's simple: in Britain, everyone is intelligent, thin and left wing. We abhor violence and like to hug our criminals rather than frying them to death. We speak proper english and our TV is not 80% fast food adverts.

'England, our England'
by Winston churchill

England is quite obviously brilliant
it's green and wet and small
it's much better than america
which is basically a big shopping mall

Everyone there loves guns and donuts
everyone here loves the queen
Cos a queen doesn't make you fat or kill you
and we don't like to cause a scene

So england is obviously better
at war and everything else too
but please don't let the yanks any closer
they whine and they all smell of poo.

You know, generally speaking we in the United States love the Queen of England.

I went to London to see the queen.
(Honestly I went to London to go to the Reuters home office, didn't know she was going to pay a visit to the new building at the time.)

Anyway, as long as we managed to remind the Yanks that thier national holiday is just a joke, then this thread has served its purpose.

But I still don't understand why the the USA national holiday is more important, or better, than the Algerian one :?
