indeed, an other background would be better

and maybe change the 4-point border of Nord-Ardennes-Some-Pais de Calais, to prevent people from not knowing how the borders are

Hmm, a long time since I've looked at this. The rivers are nice. The mountains are kinda ugly though. The legend is ok, but combined with the background looks kinda plain.

I'd recommend getting a new background. Also there are little black bits sticking out from the edge of the corners on the map.

The background is OK. I don't mind it and don't hate it.

I would prefer a more traditional background. Spain, the sea, that sort of things. I think you should drop the shadows from the key. Anyway, I'm new here, so I hope I'm not saying anything improper.

Just as a spelling correction-

it's "Pas-de-Calais", not "Pais de Calais".

:)

Just my 2 cents:

I like the french flag background it adds to the map without making it less clear as other backgrounds sometimes do.

I think the legend would be clearer if you bolded the text and/or punched it up a point size or two.

should make the large continents smaller bonuses, so when people finally get them, people will be willing to let them hold it.

I agree with the new guy, make a more traditional bg. but use the french flag for either ocean or land outside france.

Hope you'll be able to recover the file, it's a cool project :?
Well in any case if you can keep going and want to stay with the authentic feel, here's the french names that had mistakes:

Territories:
Loire Atlantique
Haute Vienne
Pyrenees
Alpes
Lozere
Bas Rhin
Haut Rhin
Pas de Calais
Somme

Continents: Well, depends if you want to keep the english versions but the french ones have a nicer ring to it IMO :
Bretagne
Pyrenees
Bourgogne
Alpes
Picardie

Plus I think Vienne should really be named Poitou (Vienne is a small part of it, and my home region :P) and Paris renamed Ile de France (or Paris Ile de France if you want to keep Paris but kinda long) for the same reasons.

(Didn't bother to read the whole thread, when a bunch of anglo-saxons gather and talk about france, lethal hilarity for the locals may ensue :P)

Definitely the first one, this is ugly. I dont like the texture of the background or the rivers or mountains. Also river next to Eure should connect to the ocean better,.

i agree with gavin about the rivers: MAKE BRIDGE CROSSING THE RIVERS IF YOU NEED CONTINENTAL CONNECTIONS!

Thats not what he is saying.. the rivers are to their maximum potential. .what he is saying is there is a black line ending the river right before the ocean and he's sure it goes into the ocean which is true.

you right, I misterunderstood what gavin said about the rivers...

anyway, why do not connect the central river to the ocean?

I mean, you could use bridge to connect territories that you like to border...

this was my suggestion
