I have to agree Marvaddin on this one. All we're doing is turning the Periodic Table in to a map, there's nothing unique about it. Lets rethink this and make it completly unique. You're to bent on getting the map done in a short time; slow it down and lets make it good.

that particular image isn't a map, we could use some of that in the map, but as of now it means nothing to the map

Well i dunno about solids and gases, but how about if you control al the liquid elements (Hg + Br) you could get a +1 bonus or something.

We need to restructure the continents, an idea is to have the transition metals as a cetral continent where you get +1 if you control a column, and hve the othe continents surrounding it, lots of connecctions up and down

that might work, like a linear version of darts, combined with a traditional map.

the final map is currently black and white. we are letting the "playability" map sit for a few days so we can get more ideas for changes.

as far as territories go those are a must, 120 is a perfect number of territories, it divedes enely into any game mode. and we'll take suggestions for names

Jsut label the country the abbreviated name on the map, and in the xml write out the full name and in parenthesis the letter (for ppl who don't knwo thier symbols)

i.e. potassium woudl be K on the map, but in the xml call it Potassium (K)

if the continents are set (the most recent colors in this thread) i will start adding color over the break. the painting program i have lets me paint, but not mess up the black and white version.

think of it as the black and white version as the canvas, with a clear sheet of plastic over it. i can paint color on the clear sheet with watercolors so i can still se the canvas behind it, but to change something, all i have to do is turn off the clear layer and i can draw on the black and white version. it makes stuff really easy to do and it will not take me long at all to make the map colored.

what kind of design should we have in the background colors of the continents? solid colors? blend from dark to light? pattern? texture? other?
what do you think?

our continents are all wrong the current image is scrapped and we're building up again, and I've got a sort of image of what I want it to look lie regardless of continets so I'll let you know when we get there. Go ahead and put something together, we'll see how a more centralized map will work with a massive continent. I like the idea of people establishing power bases and then fighting over the big continent, that sot of design is whatI"m currently aiming for

yes this is already how we are planning it.
except it will be k (potassium) instead of Potassium (k). then it will be alphabetized by what is says on the map.

you could have reinforcments in all owned elements of the same homolugous group, chained deployments across a period, special bonuses for transition metals, loose troops per turn on radioactive elemets, the list goes on
its a great idea.
