This is why even as a Roman Catholic, I can't stand some Christians. No matter what it is that people chose to worship (or not) if they live a good live according to ethical values and morals their life will be worth whatever good the afterlife has to offer. There is no reason that only Christians would go to heaven, especially since God became a loving god.
Why do Christians get ridiculed so much?

You haven't argued anything...I'm sure Jesus wouldn't want you calling others ignorant either. Something about not judging people?
As a side note, I love how you used the word (or faux word rather) "unignorant." Then you went on to call other people ignorant. It seems the only ignorant person here is you. So please do leave.

First off, I never said all. I said "most" and "a lot." The reason I use terms that indicate the majority is because the most visible portion of the Christian community are those that act like morons. It's not fair, but then again a lot of things aren't fair.
I agree with you on this point. It is the fault of the then Church, rather than the Church of today. It doesn't help that the official, Papal apologies for these events have only transpired in the last 30-50 years, however. It's hard to erase a bad reputation like that one.
You don't have the way. You have a way, or more specifically your way. As anyone who has ever read the Hagakure can tell you, there are many things that can be called Ways. Once you are sure in your own Way, you can come to terms with other Ways. Stop attacking other people's paths just because you don't happen to understand them, and stop assuming that your denomination's interpretation of God's message is the only correct one. Nowhere does it say in the Bible that there aren't multiple roads to Jesus. Yeah, yeah, I know "He is the Way" but there is no passage saying that the road leading up to the way is the same for everyone now is there?
And to add to Mandalorian's comment, I believe it was Abbie Hoffman who said "Sacred Cows make the best hamburger."

What does that even mean? Are you being figurative, or are you saying that only people named "Jesus" will be saved?
Sentence structure, Antecedent agreement, and basic spelling are all important things. Maybe when you decided that you weren't going to listen in Science class, you also decided that you'd ignore the rules of English grammar.
Listen you fundie goof, you're beliefs aren't necessarily everyone's beliefs. Stop trying to pretend like you've got the only answer, because you know what? You don't!
Why am I saying this to you? Why am I wasting my time? Because I believe in persistence. Hit a wall with a hammer enough times and the wall will collapse. Perhaps, just maybe, by constantly repeating myself at you that maybe the lightbulb will click on and you'll get it. But then again, given your length of time in your little cult of personality, maybe the bulb was unscrewed long ago...

I make fun of christians and everyone else for that matter, but ill never say x-mas should not be celebrated, I never personally said that, I also didint give a rats ass about the "one nation under god" and as for the commandments thing... o come on... i mean i didint care but in general i thought it stupid to have it placed there when there is a law on seperation of church and state, but i also thought it stupid so many people were in a uproar about it...
also another thing, Christians, they are hypocritical, not all but a lot of them, ive met some nice ones and i have friends who are, but when the main princible of Jesus's teachings is to love all and accept all... and you dont love all or accept all... your a hypocrtie... when i know family memebers of my friends who stay inside never really going outside because they are to busy watching tv shows with christians preaching about going outside and spreading the word and loving all and accepting all... yet they hate all who isnt a christian, thats a hypocrite.. and i do not stand for hypocrites..

how can there be multiple gods and ways to get to heaven? or are you trying to be broad and say all Christians say other denominations are wrong and going to hell?

Because, if the possibility of a single god is there, then it's equally as possible for there to be multiple gods/goddesses.
Christians aren't wrong, they just aren't the only ones who are right. That's all I'm saying.

Easy. The other religions don't go to your heaven and don't meet your God. Religion isn't a game of Deal or No Deal. You can have your cake and eat it too.
People who follow the norse tradition go to Valhalla, Hindus get reincarnated and eventually go to Brahman, Buddhists achieve enlightenment and go to Nirvana, and so on. There are as many Great Beyonds as there are religions.
But then again, you probably can't comprehend that, being fundie and all.
Sorry jargo, but I didn't speak without thinking and if I'm wrong then i'm just as wrong as you guys.

Not everyone falls under your little Heaven-Hell umbrella, only the ones who follow your religion's teachings.

Would an atheist really be happy in an afterlife with a bunch of smug believers, constantly reminding you of your opinions being wrong?

Personally I preferably pick on Christians who can't separate faith from fact and call people who can keep the two apart "unbelievers" or "hopeless cases who can't be converted and will go to hell" or anything like that.
A book called "the bible" exists, that's a fact, basing your beliefs on its contents is part of what's called faith.
And then these people come and tell me I have to repent my sins and have to believe that Jesus was the son of god and that there were miracles because it's in the bible and everything in the bible has to be true because it's the word of god.
Reality check anyone, you don't know if there's a god, you can't know if there's a god, if you believe in god it's called faith. And saying that there is a god because the bible says so and everything in the bible is true because it's the word of god is called "circular logic", check it out some time and then kindly never ever use it again.
Telling them this usually results in them calling you names and maybe even saying they'll pray for you. They don't even bother to consider my point of view, I HAVE considered their POV and came to the conclusion that it's not enough for me. I don't want to base my personal system of ethics, values and morals on some ancient book and the completely unfounded belief that there's an omnipotent, omnipresent, omniscient being that created us and threw us out just when things were getting interesting.
I'm not a huge fan of the idea of our personalities being no more than the result of chemical processes and the way our brains are hardwired, even if the "more" would be just the capability of influencing those processes. But it's more likely than that we were created from dust, thrown out due to disobedience against our "parents" who decided not to even send us a letter every now and then, asking how school's going and if we aren't feeling sorry for touching what they told us to keep our hands off and stuff like that.
Even so, I'm prepared to accept the possibility of us being no more than the sum of our parts until anyone can prove that there is solid evidence for god's existence, or even solid reasons for believing in him/her/it/they/whatever since I'm feeling generous. And NO, creationism is NOT solid evidence nor is it a solid reason. I'd describe it as solid waste produced by male bovine creatures...

I used to think that some religions were cults full of blinded, brainwashed lemmings utterly devoted to some fantastic fairy tale. Now, thanks to these threads, I believe that most, if not all are.
Trying to get these people to see anything other than their myopic view of the world around us is like trying to get a dog to watch TV. They are in so deep, they can't see the entrance to the hole they jumped into, dont want to see it anyway, and even if shown the way back out will deny it's existence and fight you to the death to stay. No matter what you say, they will never listen because they know they are right, and you are wrong. "Just wait...you'll see when your dead and it will be too late" is their ultimate, unprovable out.
As an non-religious "outsider" I find it amazing and a bit comical that, for example, christians laugh at scientology for being a story straight out of a sci-fi novel (alien souls blown up in volcanos, etc) , yet their equally fantastic stories of gods bearing human children, the dead coming to life and entire oceans parting at the wave of a hand are 100% true and to even question them is highly offensive.

You guys make it sound as if we Christians don't have evidence of God. That one day we were sitting around and happened to pick up a Bible and read it then said, "Gee, this God sounds cool! I think I'll believe in Him."
The reality is (in my own personal experiance) that someone told be about Jesus. I believed what they said and after excepting Jesus into my life.... things started to happen that confirmed my faith. It's as if, after believing what I heard, God revealed to me that His existence was not just a hope but a reality. And today, I am as sure of Gods existence as I am of my own. It has gone from mere belief to a knowledge of God.

Jay, is Jesus Christ your personal saviour? Cuz we kicked his ass and sent him all the way out this world the last time he tried to preach to us. He was a cah-razy kid that Jesus one. Nailed to a cross, crying like a little bitch for his daddy.
