Zoomable maps?

Post by Strider53 »

This is sort of a technical question about the type of graphics used to produce the maps (of which I know nothing! :o ), but why are the maps not "zoomable" ie: I cannot enlarge and shrink the map to zoom in and out? It would be a very nice feature since some of the maps are quite complex and some are smallish and a closer look at parts would be useful. I presently use the "larger" map size, but think zooming in would be nice. Or is this just me and something I don't know??????

My post is neither a suggestion or a bug. It is a question! Q&A is for questions - is it not?

You can try and use "Larger Maps". Thats the only way to "Zoom"

Just press "[larger maps]", which is located next to "[refresh map]"

Yes, use the larger map if you have difficulty reading the gameboard.

Additionally, I know Internet Explorer has a magnifying glass that allows you to zoom inside the browser, and I'm sure Fire Fox has something similar.

Uhm, yes you can zoom in and zoom out. Both browsers (IE and FF) have this feature built in.

Yeap. I do not have 'magnifying glass on' Firefox, however Hot Keys will Zoom in and Zoom out very well. And they are:

[Ctrl] + will zoom in
[Ctrl] 0 will reset to normal view

You can also find it in:
View  Zoom

I'm sure it's my fault for not describing what i was looking for properly or in the correct way - and thanks for trying, but ....

To address some replies (and I appreciate your time and effort):
1. I state clearly I currently use the "larger" map.
2. FF v2 or v3 does NOT zoom in with CTRL+/- This increases the text size, but not the map. As soon as the text size increases the map get all distorted since the map which is some form of graphic will not zoom in FF.
3. The magnifying feature is part of my mouse/keyboard and video driver set and I can use it which creates an enlarged area of the screen which can be moved around. I only have this at home which is not always where I play. It's awkward anyway ...
4. My laptop has a 9.5" screen, so perhaps you can see why I have some difficulty at times with some maps (only a few where the detail is finer and overall size smaller). My 22" widescreen at home is much better. ;)
5. I hadn't actually tried this is IE7 (which I don't often use for all the standard reasons), and it actually does work. The map expands properly along with the text. Why IE works and FF3 doesn't?? Maybe there's a setting on FF about graphic handling - I'll have to look, but with my default settings right now +/- does not work on the map - only the text around the map. The downside of IE (besides the obvious) is that I lose my BOB script! Is there an IE version of Greasemonkey and the BOB script for IE? I'd prefer sticking to FF anyway ....

Thanks for your help.

WRONG.

CTRL+ FFv3 Zooms into the the Map. It also increases the text size as well.
I use it all the time, as my screen is not large and my eyesight is not what it used to be.

NO.
Do NOT use magnifying feature.
It does not do the job,

FF3 does work. In Exactly the same way as IE.
Maybe your 'magnifying feature' uses the same fast keys as 'Zoom-in' feature?

Try going into (in Navigation ToolBar):
View  Zoom  Zoom in -----That should Zoom into the MAP.
Maybe there's a setting on FF about graphic handling - I'll have to look, but with my default settings right now +/- does not work on the map - only the text around the map.

Hmm... It definitely sounds that your Hotkeys are activating the 'magnifying feature' which only increases the text, and is not what you want...
Maybe deactivating 'magn.feature' in some way... I can not remember if that was causing problems for me... I have not used it (magnif.feature) in a long time. I prefer 'Zoom In'. It is so much better.
But, FF3 Zoom does work.
The downside of IE (besides the obvious) is that I lose my BOB script! Is there an IE version of Greasemonkey and the BOB script for IE? I'd prefer sticking to FF anyway ....

No, no BOB for IE just yet.
Although IE7 does have Greasemonkey. It is called "IE7 Pro". And it is free.
But, Bob is not available (yet).

Thanks for your help.

Again, thanks for the advice. I have now tried this on my home desktop and indeed it does work with FF3. My bad! :) My home system has the magnifying feature and it was not the problem. The magnifier works and the hotkeys do not conflict. However, I still have the zoom problem on my laptop and that's where I was when describing what I saw in FF3. The FF3 zoom still does not work ON MY LAPTOP. It still expands only the text. I suspect it is a video driver issue, but I will keep poking around to find a solution. Works great on my home PC though and that's where it counts the most.
