I love it, not that I'm biased or anything. I think that's three to two in favor.

Sorry kap, but that's awful.
Color are too sad and that glowing effect around switzerland is cheap.
Go for less greyish colors, lighter but less grey.
And put some very light transparent background of something like a google earth image, very light 10 - 15 % opacity!
De gueules à la tour d'argent ouverte, crénelée de trois pièces, sommée d'un donjon ajouré, crénelé de deux pièces
Gules an open tower silver, crenellated three parts, topped by a apertured turret, crenellated two parts

Haha. Pamoa you're fixated with google earth images aren't you? :p

Seriously the adjacent countries are not bad. I would just keep them. It's impossible to please everyone. They are much much better than the flag you had as a background before.

Better, for sure they are, but still ugly, sorry if you don't see them!

Isn't that subjective? :) More people seem to like them than hate them.

Totally subjective like any point of view about liking or not any graphic!

Hm, I think the image may work.

On a side note, are you going to do anything with the bridges? They look a little out of place, considering the style of graphics for the map (look at the mountains, the border lines, etc).

This is my last input on this background issue as it lasted too long.
I prefer v22 or v21a they are more alive.
If you want to see what I ment by using some google earth image as texture for your background just watch this

I hope you can get rid of this issue and go forward.

I hate to admit but I agree. This RED image is still my fav that you've posted so far.

RjBeals wrote:This red version has my vote. The colors blend very well together. I think you seriously need to start work on the title and the bonus region names.

Why not try adding some more white to the background. Maybe a 20px soft stroke around the entire country? It may look good since you have white region borders.

...And Andy is correct about the bridges. You need to have them blend into the maps style more. The hard black lines look out of place.

I prefer a different colour for the backgrounds of the other states.

If the problem is that the grey you used was dull try using some different colour tones.
