Re: [09-Jun-2008] Ratings & Medals
Interesting update - especially like the medals idea.

* IMHO there needs to be a rating for "quality of play"
* I'd like to see a medal for fog-of-war games

Re: [09-Jun-2008] Ratings & Medals
why do some people have medals and some people don't?
Re: [09-Jun-2008] Ratings & Medals
Like the medals. so-so on the feedback. What I don't like about the feedback is that it does not really allow to JUDGE how well someone played. It's too general. Someone could play very poorly, but be a good teammate, have good conduct, and be fair. They'll show up positively on the feedback but will have played a bad game. I suppose that's what the points system is there for though. I just wish I could see how someone plays before I play w/ them (or, sometimes, against them).

The points system, which determines rank, is a combination of your skill (quality of play) and your luck. You may be the world's best strategist but if you roll only ones you'll never become an officer. Which is why I agree that we should be able to leave feedback on the quality of play.
Re: [09-Jun-2008] Ratings & Medals
What I think is the wrong way to play may be the correct and excellent way or quality to someone else...

Re: [09-Jun-2008] Ratings & Medals
So it appears that the only reason for this horrible new feedback system is so that you guys don't have to do any work? That has to be the stupidest reason I have ever heard for changing something on a website.
If you don't want to be bothered with moderating feedback, then hire someone to do it for you. This website is not exactly lacking in subscribers, if you know what I mean. If you don't want to hire someone to do it, then just cut down the moderation to a minimum and only deal with the very serious complaints. But the worst idea would be to crap out on a feature of the site simply because you don't want to deal with it. If you want this to be a professional site, then act like professionals and take care of problems instead of trying to sweep them under the rug.

The new ratings are useless. And what is the point of that Orange star? For me, it just clutters the space.
Can we atleast have the old feedback right next to the ratings?

this is poxy, want the old feedback back
Re: [09-Jun-2008] Ratings & Medals
Very nice update!!
Re: [09-Jun-2008] Ratings & Medals
A little research on Likert scales would possibly have helped this work better. A Likert scale without descriptors for the individual ratings (i.e, 1 - Strongly Disagree, 2 - Disagree, 3 - Neither Agree or Disagree, 4 - Agree, 5 - Strongly Agree) makes this a nearly useless tool that leaves its users flying blind as to what they are rating.
Bring back the feedback. That is the only way that a player can really know what kind of people that they are joining games with.

Re: [09-Jun-2008] Ratings & Medals
one of the only bad things i can think about this system is that you won't be able to stop people from giving bad ratings becuz they lost..... but hopefully there aren't too many ppl like that
Re: [09-Jun-2008] Ratings & Medals
I like the new system too. One idea - not sure if this is the best place to post it though: for attendance or timliness of moves (I check very often so folks I play with usually see me take a turn in a couple hours and I almost never miss) - is it possible for cc to calculate and post an "average time to move" stat for each player's profile - that, with a formula for missing turn or getting kicked might be another way for players that want to avoid deadbeats to know exactly who helps play move along quickly.
Just a thought. Comments?

There will never be an average time to move. This is because as a casual gaming site, people only need to check their games once a day. If I check at 8 am Eastern Time and the person before me in the game makes their move at 8:30 am Eastern Time every day, I am going to have 23.5 hours as my average time.

The new system is nice, especially with how it cancels out retalitory feedback, that was a major problem
But for the new medals, it should show us how far we are towards reaching the next medal

They show up after the game is archived (5 days).

Also, I have won well over 300 games, and no medal for achievement. I GUARANTEE I have beat 20 unique players in standard games. yet no medal. WTF???
Guess the system does not know how to count - either that - or its only calculated once a day / week / month... who knows.
How often are medal counts calculated?
I think they'll show up when the games are archived.
300 wins - I GUARANTEE the games are archived - I have been a member for over a year now - Some people (the captains and generals) have badges - it seems the lower ranks - do not... Hmmm.... I could be wrong.. just my observation so far....
I am starting to lean towards not being a fan of this.
You haven't left feedback under the new system for that many people. Old system feedback doesn't count for medals, just the new 1-5 ratings
NO .. on Monday night, the day the system went online... I spent an hour and rated 80 people... "hoping" my medal would show up... its now been 24 hours since I rated all those people, and still no medal.
I did my part - I rated the players - The system is CLEARLY not counting properly - or not counting fast enough.
SOMEONE PLEASE advise how often the medal stats are updated.

If the games haven't been Archived yet (5 days...they are still in your eliminated or recently finished) then you've got to wait until then I think.

HERE HERE!!!!
And more pointedly - why do all the higher ranks have medals.. it looks about Seargent first class and above from what I have seen.
I KNOW my stats deserve medals (based on your description) - but I have none.. WTF .. is this a "clique" Only the upper class get the medals.
No one has even responded to how often the stats are updated..
Communication folks.. communication....

Have you won a game yet? Once you win a game, your medals will be all updated to what you have earned over your CC career.
