This means I'll have to stop my race to get a high rank to get some more gold awards. I WANT THEM!

Maybe off topic, but medals have made it obvious how you have been doing it if it wasn't before. Terminator eh?
Warning: You may be reading a really old topic.

No, as I said earlier, the assholes will still leave you bogus feedback (ratings). This new system simply hides the fact that they're assholes by not giving them a noose to hang themselves with.
I kinda suspect that this rating system was designed to make things easier for the moderators rather than for any real benefit to the users of the site; what it effectively does is prevent people from complaining about their feedback. You can't complain about a number.

Re: [09-Jun-2008] Ratings & Medals
I would like it if there was a place that showed my current stats towards earning each medal.
I want to bring my Standard medal up to gold, but I don't know if that will take one game or a hundred games to make that happen...

Nice updates, I like them.
Re: [09-Jun-2008] Ratings & Medals
Interesting stuff. The medals are great! Dunno about the new ratings system though. I figure it will go this way...
"Awesome! Now I can just slag off people as much as I like without worrying about getting negative comments. Hey John, you're a jerk and you play like a noob..."
"Oh yeah? Well I'm going to leave '1's on your feedback which will bring your averages down by 0.1"
"I'm shivering in my boots, ya jerk."
"And I'll put a negative comment on your wall telling everyone how rude you are!"
"I'll delete it, and you're still a jerk, ya jerk."
Negative comments were a true disincentive, but it's not a disincentive for your average rating to go down a bit.
The comments were fun and it was cool to acknowledge a long or difficult or unusual game. This has thrown out the baby with the bathwater. It looks much more professional, makes it a more professional site, but it's lost some of it's character with this feedback change.
And really, who didn't enjoy reading through other people's feedback?
I'll roll with it, it's not bad - not complaining, but pointing out a problem with it.

Re: [09-Jun-2008] Ratings & Medals
perhaps feedback could be implemented along with the rating, just not shown unless you open the persons profile. I really did enjoy giving people feedback, and there really was nothing to tell you how a player is like the contentents of thier feedback.

Re: [09-Jun-2008] Ratings & Medals
If I were looking at this objectively compared side-by-side to the old system, I'd definitely say this is better.
That said, I really hate to see my perfect 257-0 feedback record (I think one of the 2 or 3 highest perfect records on the site) basically vanish into thin air.
*sigh*
OK, I'm over it.
Keep up the good work guys!

Re: [09-Jun-2008] Ratings & Medals
Most of it's been said, but I'll throw in my piece.
1) I'd like to see a comment system, as well. The star system isn't BAD- technically a 1-5 rating is more accurate (if used correctly) than a 1-3 rating (which is basically what negative-neutral-positive was). The star system is just incomplete- we need to be able to leave comments as to why someone received the rating that they did.
2) I love the medal idea. I'm sure more will come from this in the future, but I'd like to see not only more types of medals, but also another level of medals (e.g. Platinum) that only the very elite players earn. I got 12 medals, and I don't consider myself among the better players on the site.
3) Lastly, I would like to see some sort of option where you can see how far you need to go to achieve another medal.
Kudos for constantly working to make the site a better one, though.

Re: [09-Jun-2008] Ratings & Medals
Cool system, I can't leave a rating however for anyone even tho it says I have.

Re: [09-Jun-2008] Ratings & Medals
I prefer to know why someone is a bad/ not fun player instead of some star rating... the feedback helps you know exactly what previous players thought
Exactly. And to the person who said "it's not clear" that the new non-feedback system (my complaint is only with that--the rest of the changes are fine) is reviled more than extolled, I suggest that you read the thread you just posted in.
This thread is the first time I've ever posted in one of the forums (despite playing a couple hundred games on the site) and I sought this out specifically to express how dissatisfied I am with the "new, improved" rating system. A player with 50 positives and 0 negatives impresses me a lot more than a player rated "5 stars" for "fairness" or whatever. The feedback gave one a good idea of whether or not a player used abusive language, what exactly the issue was with lack of timely play, etc.
I don't have any real problem with stars if you want stars, but they aren't very helpful by themselves... just bring back the feedback too! You've killed a useful feature and replaced it with a much-less-useful, inferior substitute.
Re: [09-Jun-2008] Ratings & Medals
Although this might be good, taking away those comments people have left for one is bad.
If someone recieves a medal in combat, they tend to to get a written statement with it, the old system wit h positive and negative feedback did that, this should continue

Re: [09-Jun-2008] Ratings & Medals
Okay, couple of things:
1) The only good thing I see here is this system of preventing retaliatory feedback by not displaying it until it is too late.
2) If we aren't going to get comments with the feedback, there should at least be a link to the game so that we can read the chat and figure out what the reason was for ourselves. As it is, there is no comment available, and no game chat to turn to. I don't know whether to trust the feedback that I read (and let's face it, some people just leave crap feedback because they're jerks, not because there was actually something wrong).
3) This one guy is getting on peoples cases for not checking the forums earlier and seeing this coming. Seriously, most members don't have time to be on the look out 24/7 for bad ideas on the forums. Maybe these sorts of MAJOR changes should be approved by a vote. Like, for some 24 hour period, when people log in they are prompted to approve the change or not. I honestly don't think this would have passed. It is nice and fancy, but the truth is that the old system allowed you to decide for yourself if you thought the complaints against someone were something you cared about. The way it stands, you just have to trust every jerk who can click on a god damn star. It's no good.

Re: [09-Jun-2008] Ratings & Medals
Its good but like others have said, comments(good or bad) were good.
Re: Clarity of Rating Scales, etc. (Empirically valid solutions)
Esn wrote:Nigelus wrote:Better upgrade than some of the abusive ranting that I've seen in the past - Though, some of it is just plain hilarious...
I think that abusive ranting generally says more about the person who wrote it than the person who receives it. So if I saw a negative that looked like it was written by an idiot, I'd just ignore it. The new system still allows that abusive person to give you the lowest score, but it doesn't allow the person looking at your feedback to see whether it was deserved or not.
P.S. I approve of the new "no secret diplomacy" rule... the fact that no-one's mentioned it so far probably indicates that it's the one non-controversial part of these updates.
Esn,
I'm in total agreement with you - I like the old feedback system, but if the language is too abusive (which it honestly is at times) then the "CC" moderators need to comply or change to a system which protects their liability (sad, but true).
I just think the rating system needs a little more depth and needs to actually represent accurate feedback of the player being rated, if the moderators have to change to this newer system...
Cheers,
Nigelus.
PS - I think you're correct about the "diplomacy issue", but who would complain about it in a forum...?
Re: [09-Jun-2008] Ratings & Medals
The medals are a grand idea. Very nice.
