Defend Your Castle! (Round 1 In Progress)

Post by El Capitan X »

Well, it's summer time and I believe I'll have time to run a tourney. This is my first go at running a tourney, so be nice. This will be a very experimental tournament, so I hope it is fun; but my early apologies if my idea ends up falling flat on its face.

**You must have premium membership for this tourney**

Description:
-All games will be played on classic map, sequential, no cards, unlimited forts.

There will be 3 strategically placed "Castle" territories for each game: Ukraine, China, and Ontario. The point of this tournament is to have the most armies on these 3 territories at the end of 10 rounds. That's right, the winner isn't the last man standing; rather, it's whoever has the most armies on the 3 castle territories when round 10 has concluded. Notice, only 3 castles and 4 players in each game. For every army on one of the 'castle territories' at the end of 10 rounds, you receive one point. Whoever has the most number of points through 5 games will win the tourney.

Note: The player who finishes up round 10 and thus advances the game to round 11 is required to SEND ME A PM IMMEDIATELY. No user is to play round 11 until I have declared the winner. After round 10, the game (as far as the tourney goes) is over. That means you guys can do whatever you want starting round 11, after I have determined the winner.

What strategy will you use? Secure an early bonus? Establish a castle early and never stop deploying on it? Wait till round 10 to make your final move? It's up to you! Who's strategy will prevail and who will control the castles?

Tournament Format:
-32 players total

First round:
4 games with 4 players each.

Second round:
4 games with 4 players each.

Third round:
4 games with 4 players each.

Fourth round:
4 games with 4 players each.

Fifth round:
4 games with 4 players each.

-All matchups will be randomly determined by drawing names out of a hat.
-Users will play 1 game per round.

The winner will be determined by whoever has the most TOTAL POINTS OVER 5 ROUNDS!

Players:
1. [player]jangler3[/player]
2. [player]sd031091[/player]
3. [player]odratsab[/player]
4. [player]Kalano Sanchin[/player]

i would love to try this out if it comes down to needing more people in or as a reserve. its an interesting idea, and I bet the battle after there is a king on the castle will be pretty interesting!

Sounds interesting. I think I'll join.

I also have a suggestion for future tournaments that would follow this format (or this one since there are still few people). On a classic map drop could effect how someone did in this tournament. Someone could have a good drop for South America or Aussie, but another person has Ontario, Greenland, Quebec, and NW Territories. The former may win the game and the points but the latter gets the advantage for the tournament. To eliminate this drop luck I suggest a map w/ known neutrals as the territories to hold. My suggestion would be Feudal Wars and the 3 territories be the villages. In such a map everyone gets an equal drop, and the opportunity to get to a village is the same for all. Then each game is only determined by dice luck. With 40 games hopefully the drop luck is eliminated but it's something to consider.

Interesting idea. As I said before, this is very experimental, so I'm always open to suggestions. Perhaps I might consider using different maps in 'Defend Your Castle II' if this tourney is popular enough. Pertaining to this tourney, I'm hoping and believe that after playing 5 games, the luck of the drop will even itself out. That's the reason why I made it 'no cards', to eliminate as much luck as possible.

We still need more to test out this tourney! Join the fun!

Just a little suggestion. 10 rounds in pretty short for a four player game. You might want to bump that up a little bit. But your goal could be a little different so do what ever you want. :)
Good luck with it. Not in

May be true. No way to know for sure until it's actually tested, so 'Defend Your Castle II' may have more rounds ;)

Also, I have lowered the # of players to 16 since people seem hesitant to venture into the unknown. Same settings, just a smaller pool of players.

yeah if it wasn't freestyle I'd join. Freestyle seems to benefit whoever has the good luck to be around their computer the most and that definitely won't be me with my work schedule this summer.
