Bah, should have added the "only one ounce" or "for medical use only" options.
I think it should be legal, so long as it is only used by the owner. As long as it is not doing any harm to anyone else, there's no reason why it should be banned. Not that I approve of it, because I do not. Pot smokers are real idiots in my opinion, but it's their right to harm themselves.

Pot is just as intoxicative (is that a word?) as Alcohol, and has about the same addictive qualities (if you balance the anti-mary and pro-mary's arguments against each other).
I don't care if you've got one ounce or one pound, as long as you aren't infringing on others' rights then go forth and smoke.

Actually that is not true. Alcohol is much worse according to experts.
Here are some very interesting addiction stats. Note that Alcohol is #1 twice, and Nicotine is the hardest to kick...worse than Heroin. Also note where Marijuana is.
They are ranked in order of dependency.

Of course it should be legal
1)The tax revenues that could be made from marijuanna would be HUGE. This is reson enough to legalize it.
2)Alchohol and Nictoine are already legal and far more damaging to individuals and society
3)It's an unrefined plan as nature intended it to be. (Unless of course you're buying genetically modified seed) Marijaunna being illegal is logically equivalent to making nutmeg, or any illegal
4)All sorts of products can be made from the hemp plant. Things like paper and fuel and clothing. It can be harvested 1 or 3 times a year depending on the climate, and would lead to lower levels of destruction of our forests and atmosphere.

THIS IS WORTH READING
I live in cali (california) and there are countys that have voted for its legalization and had it legalized for "medical use" which basically means who can BS their doctors the best.
we have weed banks to distribute it for half the cost on the street and its better with more selection. also if you have a club card (needed to buy weed from the weed bank) and a cop pulls you over, you show him your card and he lets you go on your merry ole' way.
other countys have told the police to put it on their lowest priority list, ie; if some one is jay walking and someone is smoking pot or selling it on their private property, by law in that county, the cop has to bust the jay walker first. God i love cali.

Me too...although I will bet it is based in fear and misleading propaganda. Things like "It's a gateway to harder drugs", "highly addictive", "causes crime", etc.

Marijuana was first legalized in my local city of Denver.
It was still punishable under state and national laws, so the legalization in Denver was useless, as you would still be in violation of more powerful laws issued by the state and federal governments.
Now there is an ammendment that will be voted on in November to legalize it statewide, but again will still be illegal because it would still be against federal law.
The main arguement is that marijuana is less harmful than alcohol.
Which is not a good arguement in my opinion.
It makes it sound like they want prohibition again, which failed miserably.
Just for the record I am against prohibition as well.
Just because it is less harmful than alcohol does not mean that the affects of marijuana are not harmful, because marijuana is harmful, and should not be legalized, in any amount for any reason for any age group.
It's kinda hard to explain on the computer, but I tried...

So are Guns, Cigarettes, McDonalds, Sport Bikes, Drain Cleaner & Rat Poison. There are plenty of consumer items that are dangerous, yet they are legal.
The "war on drugs" is a wildly expensive & massive failure.

EXACTLY!!! there's already enough harmful things that are legal, like motor vehicles, scissors, electricity, and so on and so forth...
So why do we need to legalize even more harmful things? we've got enough...

VT - are you a Libertarian?
I happen to agree with you (although I don't smoke it). I'm in the "legalize and tax it" crowd. But let me play Devil's Advocate. If marijuana is legalized, then should we also legalize cocaine, hashish, LSD, mushrooms, hallucinogenic toads. . . you get the picture. And if your answer is no, why not?

I would say no to anything that is synthetic. However, a drug like lsd isn't really harmful physically, it just alters your senses and if you're in a stressful or excited environment then it can cause the taker to become fearful or angry...thus making it harmful.

Yes. The reasons drugs like heroin and cocaine lead to so much violence are the same reasons that led to events like the St. Valentine's Day Massacre during the prohibition days. It's all about the violent takeover and maintaining of your sales territory, not to mention the risk involved in getting the product. Prohibition didn't work for alcohol, so why does everyone think that it's working for marijuana, cocaine, opium, etc. given the same evidence?

As to the "medicinal" side...LOL!!!! Personally, I believe the Faster Healing BS is trumped up by the users and their lobby-funded quack MD's to get that initiative passed...I can create medically sound studies indicating I heal faster if I get serviced every morning but it doesnt make it fact (and I HAVE had to create extensive medical studies for the patent that I own, so this comes from 20 years' experience).
I know 6 folks that have their Medical card and every one of them admit things hurt WORSE when high but it is worth it to them; simply legalizing their habit......and the one pound possession limit? Again, LOL!!!
Anyhow, back to being serviced every morning........;o)

Legalizing marijuana and other drugs would reduce crime A LOT (more so for other drugs). The same thing happened with prohibition, gangs would fight each other to dominate the illegal alcohol trade. So in essence, less people would be dying if these drugs were legalized.

I personally am against all drugs (alcohol and tobacco included). Although, if alcohol is legal I see no reason why pot shouldn't be. I think they should sell weed cigarettes where ever they sell tobacco cigarettes. But they should apply the same laws on weed as they on alcohol (age 21+ and not while driving), but they should have more severe fines for people using it under age (causes more permanent damage when used heavily at young ages). Then the government should tax the hell out of it and help the country get out of debt. I think it should be this way for all natural drugs, meth and stuff like that should still be illegal.
Stop using medical uses as a reason to legalize it, IT DOESN'T HELP YOU HEAL FASTER!!! It's just a pain killer, and they only give it too you if they think your disease will kill you anyway.
