its been tried at least 3 times, suggested at least 10, and i think one might have made it to the foundry once, either that or they forgot to move it here

Well, I'm a new user and couldn't find the previous attempts - any suggestions about something to start with...?
Thanks in advance, ALESSANDRO

abandon quickly. It will never work unless you are at the master level.

it has been tried many times, and has always proved a major challenge. But the fact that it keeps coming up suggests that the idea would be popular.

I encourage you to give it a try, saoleorsbr, but if the discussion doesn't yield an attempt this thread will be merged with New Map Idea.

The human body

Post by sellethore »

i was thinking about the idea of a human body,
so you would have a continent "the head",
"the hart" and "the lungs"
and maybe more continents.

it's aswell a good way to learn the human body.
i aswell made a little sketch, if this idea is accepted i wil make it very good.

(aswell hi on the forum, my first post)

[bigimg]http://img175.imageshack.us/img175/6255/cchumanbodypo5.png[/bigimg]
its a bit small, the real map is i wil make bigger then.

Well, I think you need to make the map interesting enough in gameplay or whatever. I think this map would lack appeal themewise. I could be wrong. And even if it does, a damned good map will succeed anyhow. Go with it, but be creative to make it work.

first off, this has been suggested many many times and i think given up for lack of interest and too complicated

secondly i think it would be better if it was just the inside of the torso i.e. heart lungs kidney and so on

another issue brought up in the old thread (i dont know whther anyone can find it) is tht the map would have to be suitable for younge players

This is an awesome idea... but I think it might be too complicated. I can vaguely envision an awesome, complex map of the Human Body, but I don't think that it would be easy to do at all... we'd need someone who is both a photoshop whiz, and at least a third-year medical student. Probably won't find too many of those killing time on online Risk sites.

all failed because of graphics/gameplay/too complicated/other reasons

by all means give it a shot

First year medical students know it too, besides I have a big book on human anatomy (4th edition of Netter) so names are no problem.

The real question is how complicated you want to make the map? I mean, a map on arteries and venes alone would be enormously big if you put enough of them in. Even bones would totally be too much if you wanted them all. And I'm not even talking about the fact that many structures overlap. (Your spleen and kidneys are totally overlapped by your liver and stomach, hell your liver even overlaps your stomach for a good deal.)

My suggestion is taking organs, major arteries/venes and a few bones as the theme.
The real question is how complicated you want to make the map?
You could have: the blood system; lymph system; digestion; organs; bones; nerves :?

A blood system one would be fun. You could have attacks only in one direction! Also add in some army damage when the blood goes thru certain organs.

Adding in the idea of being kid safe, how about working on major bones? There are lots of connections and its less squeemish subject.

All the best

yes, forgot that some organs overlap.
i will do the organs on top then.
if i has been suggested many of times but not come then it's my turn :D

i am not sure about the bones. i will think it out.

It's not even just the organs. Most major arteries and venes are overlapped by either organs or other arteries and venes. Shit, an anterior view of the body would give you nothing but muscles, or, when you edit the muscles out, lungs, brain, liver, stomach and intestines. (Excluding the limbs.)

The difficulty here is that the body is 3-dimensional and very neatly put together, while a map is just two-dimensional.

Do just the bones. That's the easiest and most recognizable.

Or you could do a bunch of smaller maps that each have their own system, like one map could be the skeleton, and another could be a few systems (respitory, digestive, nervous, etc.)

If you want to keep it simple, you could start with the teeth!

Reasonable number of terrtitories with natural groupings between continents.

Each tooth could attack one tooth either side and the tooth on the opposite jaw.
