Never make an important move when you're half asleep

Post by gannable »

Check this game out. I had the last turn

http://www.conquerclub.com/game.php?game=2311283

I got up early this morning, looked at the map and chalked up this game as a victory before moving. Unfortunately I was still groggy and didnt see green's 2 armies on Western Europe. I thought he only had 2 territories in south america

I just have to hope I'm playing with a bunch of idiots who are worried about Orange's bonus in north america.

Sucks because I would have reached 2000 pts for the 1st time

I'm pretty sure at least ArgoW will notice. Unfortunate, really. Ol' cook there might get a good bit of points if he gets a little luck.

Most players have done that at least once... I know I have.
After that first time though, you start to double-check a little harder.

Advice though... I don't think I'd have drawn attention to it by posting it in a thread or making a statement in the game. You may have just pointed it out to someone in your game who may not have noticed it!

Thats a good suggestion, I have another...

Leave game chat alone when drinking Wild Turkey.
Give a man fire and keep him warm for a night, set a man on fire and keep him warm for the rest of his life.

i never take my turns in the morning before i have coffee... i may open the laptop and browse games, but i wait until i at least finish a cup of coffee, before making moves...-0

p.s.-that is actually a partner rule, too...

That's sounds like a good system. I can't count the number of times I've made stupid mistakes first thing in the morning.

I just hope this game isnt a harbinger of a momentum swing for me.

I seem to have ups and downs.

I joined in December 2007 - it took me a month then i settled around the 1300 pt range. Then I shot up to the 1500 range. Then I went up again to the 1750 range and then went to 1860 for a day.

Then, I had a 5 week nightmare stretch where I bottomed around 1300 pts. I couldnt win anything, partially because I joined this tournament in which I became the target for everyone because i was in the lead in our bracket.

But since then ive been on a roll nearing 2000.

It seems like a game like this where i throw a game away precludes a slump.

only if you dwell on it. The best thing you can do, is learn from your mistake and put it behind you. It's just 1 game. There will be many more.

Oh dear...I tend to take all my moves when I am half awake.

Oh wait a minute, this is about being half asleep...phew, thought I was in trouble there for a moment.

yeah there is nothing wrong with playing half asleep, you just need to be more careful.

After thinking about this, I'm changing my opinion...
I think making your moves when you're half-asleep is absolutely okay!
Even make them when you're FULLY asleep... Because the simple truth of the matter is some asshole's gonna attack you for absolutely no reason anyway, the dice are gonna totally screw you, or ALL the other players are going to decide you need to go first...

There is at least 1 idiot in this game.

Pink went after me and didnt take out green.

Cyan
then Orange
and then Green.

If neither takes out green. Green has a set and Im hoping he's dumb enough to waste his set on breaking up Orange in North America.

If I do get another turn in this game I will win the game.

This is hilarious...

I especially love how pink read the game chat but didn't connect the dots...
Can't wait to see how it all turns out....

I've decided to try this technique today. Instead of taking my turns, and then browsing the forums, I'm going it the other way around. If this works properly, I'll be a brigadier by noon.

oh...it's 1PM already. damn.

*edit*- I didn't make any crucial mistakes (that I noticed). Maybe we're on to something here.

I feel for you man - we've all been there and done it, except its usually after alcohol that it afflicts me unfortunately. When you come home drunk at 3 in the morning (or even when waking up the next day still drunk) taking your turns seems like a very good idea - I feel incredibly charitable and decide to give away vast chunks of points. Just a pity when the next time you log-in you realise you're not going to be 2000+ for much longer...

wow,
and it continues

cyan did not take out Green. I believe he made an effort by attacking with his 7 armies on northern europe but got bad dice.
he could have used his armies on indonesia to move forward but i guess he didnt want to risk his precious bonus

bunch of noobs

the funny thing is green might actually win the game if he has decent dice and play the right way.

I screwed up the other day, just took a load of turns in esc. games where it was early stages so no-one was cashing early, took the turn in another game where I clearly needed to cash early to get a kill and completely skimmed the move, just because I was half-asleep and not really focusing. Lost me an easy termination.

and 3 times is a charm

Orange did not attack green.

Green lives to use his set. Let's see what stupidity Green does with his set, hopefully attacks Orange in North America.

=D> I enjoyed this post very much.

Perhaps someday I will actually make a move important enough in a game where I'll get upset about it later. Until then, I'll just pretend that I'm actually making a difference.
