Religion is good for these reasons:

1) It feels me with His abundant Love, which is pure and unsullied. (unlike my..hang on, off topic already)

2) It teaches me how to think.
3) It takes away responsibility for my actions (I only follow His will)
4) It helps me love everyone, everyone who believes what i believe.
5) It helps me spread STDs, because religion frees me from contraception.
6) It frees me from fear, despair and guilt, because i know i am always being scrutinsed by Him, and if i am not pure int hought and deed, i am going to Hell-that always cheers me up.

7) It helps me to justify wars, which is cool, cos God likes big guns.
8) SO: Yay! Religion - Helping amnkind to f k each other up for centuries.

Let us pray.

religion is also cool because if you're a priest you can wear robes and no one will know if you have nothing on under them.

For all of you people who think that science proves (or will prove everything eventually) you are actually a member of a "scientific" religion. Now don't get me wrong, I love science and think it does have many useful tool that help us explain things in the universe. But I do believe it (science) is limited because I believe there are things that are beyond the physical universe and science , by definition, cannot prove or disprove anything beyond (i.e the super natural)

Saying religion is stupid because it is just a fairy tale and science if fact is not a very good comparison when you actually look at what you are saying when comparing the two.

Scientism is the faith that science has no boundaries, that in due time all human problems and all aspects of human endeavor will be dealt and solved by science alone.

Since there is no way to prove what we can know or what we will know or that everything is knowable, believing that science can prove, explain or answer everything is a step of faith in itself.

No shit! Now if you could just get all the little evangelizers to leave me alone during my lunch break it would be appreciated. I have my faith and you have yours. I'm perfectly happy to not believe in God. It's not like we're going out and knocking on your door and bothering you.

You also don't believe that my beliefs will cause me to suffer for eternity. Since I believe that your beliefs will cause you to suffer for eternity, I think I should let you know. Like I expect you would if you saw me driving toward a cliff, you know - "Hey buddy, don't drive too fast toward that cliff" so I say "hey, you might want to rethink your irrational fear of God."

Settle down man. I am not knocking down your door. I am just explaining how believing only in science as an answer to everything is also a step of faith.

My purpose in posting was to show that the author has faith that only science is true. He was criticizing others for having faith in a god or creator when he himself has complete faith in science. Believing that science is the only way to explain anything or the only way things came about is NOT science, it is faith.

And I am not trying to say anyone can't believe this. But those who do believe that SCIENCE IS THE ONLY ANSWER is just as "illogical".

I hear you loud and clear on this. I really do. But most of the time it doesn't come across like that, at least to me. For me, it sounds more like "you better not do this or else!"

For some reason, I'm seeing the OP as one of those guys from the episode of South Park saying, "Oh. My. Science." Not to mention at war with talking beavers.

Just like religion, your blinded by the truth of my genius. And that I come here as a person of enlightenment, not of hate and violence as religion always depicts.

And remarkable, that serious turn it took for a few posts there was utterly unexpected.

Im so glad Im an atheist, cause that way my true sciences can obliterate your false pipe-dreams of a so called god.

I am not sure why I am bothering ... this thread really belongs in flame wars since you don't ask for debate, merely wish to insult.

But ... Science can do as much to validate as invalidate religion. How you choose to see it is up to you, but if you truly are a scientist, then you acknowledge that ANYTHING you cannot disprove could be true. NO ONE has disproven the possibility of God yet. To claim otherwise is the ultimate in scientific hypocrasy.

Oh, and as was already pointed out, there is a huge difference between a few fanatics who exist in every belief and creed system, and the vast majority of adherants to any religion. Once again, you show a complete ignorance of science and the scientific process .. not adherance to it.

Sorry, but that is the truth.

However, god can be shown to be extremely improbable, far more improbable than any other explanation.

Oh please, with that logic, you might as well believe in the flying spaghetti monster, or a tooth fairy! Yeah, atleast she is a bit true considering she comes in and gives you some money and takes your loose tooth under your pillow!

There was a highlight on Sportscenter today after the fifteen seconds of footy that blew my mind. I was like, "what the f*ck sport is this?!" Turns out it was cricket.

PROVE God doesn't exist. Then talk. Else, you are no true scientist.

To be a REAL scientist means to acknowledge the possibility of that which you are incapable of comprehending or even disbelieve.
