Escalating for Advanced Players
We've worked our way through escalating for beginners and escalating for intermediates and now it's time to cover advanced strategies! If you wish to attain the highest levels at CC, you will need to employ these strategies with great care and diligence!
First: join a clan (choose wisely...not all clans have advanced strategies figured out). This is a team game after all and you need a strong team to succeed!
With that you will have access to all kinds of fun clan challenges and the like, but more importantly you will have access to mega points!
Here's what you do:
Start up some 8p escalating games, either public or private, it matters not. If they are public though, make sure two or three of your clan buddies are ready to join right away. If they are private, advertise them after your mates join the game.
Once that is done, advertise your games and get them filled.
Now comes the fun part!
Make sure you have some convenient 1's between you and you clan buddies so you can trade cards. Plus you get the added benefit of the gamelog showing that you are attacking your clan buddies frequently.
Make sure you are nibbling away at your non-clan table mates. You want to attack their 5's and 6's. If it's a key position, then you want to take the territory. If it's not a key positions then you just want to reduce them without taking the territory. The beauty of that move is the log won't show the attack, your opponents will have to count back through deployments to see what's going on, which is a difficult task that most won't bother with.
It's important to be doing this in the first four rounds, because after all, the first rounds are where escalating games are won or lost! Remember it's all about blocking, position, and strength. If you reduce your opponents army strength by 30% the first few rounds, their chances of winning diminish greatly. They will still win some, but over the long haul, your team will come away with more wins and more points!
So team up! Join a clan today and climb that ladder!
{edit: if you've read this far and are seriously contemplating behaviors as described above, or if you have been actively employing behaviors above, then GFY.}

I'm old. Old people don't seek stardom. They generally seek comfort. You'll understand when you grow up.

I would agree, but others may disagree.
Re: Escalating for Advanced Players
Perhaps I'm just fortunate but I don't recall getting into many, if any games like this. Certainly not enough to bitch about. Because I understand that several ranked above me are so because of rather unsavory methods, others are because they won some stupid game with 30 players in it, and others are quite simply because they're better than I am at this game, I don't really sweat it.
If this was poker and I was losing real money because I was being taken by a group of players teaming up against me, I'd be quite pissed. However, even if I have been victim of this and just didn't realize, I suppose I take solitude in knowing that the real joke is on anyone who's a big enough loser to basically cheat in order to rise in rank of an on-line game.

I haven't been in any myself (that I'm aware of), I just decided to do a little study and browsed some game logs.
Re: Escalating for Advanced Players
I play a lot of escalating games. many against high ranked players. I have never seen this tactic being used. Or maybe I'm just too thick to realize it. Are you accusing anyone in particular of cheating? If so, you're in the wrong forum. Or maybe you're just bitching. in which case, you're also in the wrong forum.

So you have no personal experience with this and yet you bothered to make a post about it? Really? I mean, I can almost understand somebody being bent because a few people hosed him like that in a game. However, the fact would still remain that I'd played no shortage of escalating games and hadn't myself seen it.
Now I'm supposed to assume that this happens despite the fact that it hasn't happened to me based on the word of someone else who also hasn't had it happen to them?

Sounds good to me. When do we get to start banning clans based on this startling revelation?
Sounds like an extreme reaction to me. You need to chill out a bit. Things are what they are.
I'm bored and I like to study escalating risk, in depth. You can either dismiss the findings, accept the findings, or rebut the findings, but spare the crusades, it just ain't worth it.

OK then, sign me up for "dismiss the findings" with a sarcasm chaser.stringybeany wrote:detlef wrote:

Are you serious? Cause if you are, I would suggest reporting what you've found. The scenario you've described sounds like some pretty low and dirty tactics, and should be looked at.

I doubt you are older than me but you certainly seem far more bitter

Come on guys, you're missing the point. You're meant to post your advanced escalating strategies so stringybeany can use them. So get on it!

Re: Escalating for Advanced Players
I think this is an absoloute disgrace.
It makes a complete farce of all the ethics and fair play that I signed up to when I joined. I am shocked to think that such shennanigans actually occur in games. I mean if clans are avoiding fighting each other, the next thing you will find is people who are friends deliberately not attacking each other within games, or 'just share cards' then they carve up the results between them.
I feel I have been used by nefarious types in their single minded determination to take my hard earnt points from me. It explains why all those who are above me on the leader board are there, I did wonder why. Next thing you will be telling me is there are some members who deliberately open more than one account and use these other accounts as vehicles to harvest yet more points!!!
I think there should be a poll about this, the options should be:
Do these dastardly types get:
1) Flogged
2) Flogged
3) Flogged

I usually try to kill all the other people, with armies from cards.

I've always been a fan of the "Just don't die" strategy. It's always been good advice for video games, so I figured it would carry over into CC well.

JUST DESTROY
Re: Escalating for Advanced Players
OK I guess this type of strategy can be done in legal ways after every one joins announce a alliance.
Now the truth is I got a great set of friends that show up to my escalating games and I have never seen this scenario happen. But if it ever did I do not believe it would work in the long run..
