Re: A bit of Market Research... who uses BOB?
i love using bob, especially when my laptop is not plugged in because it makes it easier to see which territories are which!
Re: A bit of Market Research... who uses BOB?
hey owen can I ask you to count my opponents territories in my world 2.1 games I have and if you agree I promise to get rid of BOB if you would do that for me every turn. TY

I originally discovered BOB through the FAQ link:
38. Is there any software to install?
which went to the forum. I was using BOB long before I started posting.

2 1/4 in my hasselblad... no digital... and your point?-0
It depends what you shoot of course, if you are based almost exclusively in the studio or do not have deadlines to meet, it is a luxury you can and you may feel must afford.
my point is that photographers in many areas (on location for example) could and have done what they do using film and darkroom alone.
However due to the ever increasing requirements of speed and the shrinking of our world via FTP etc., it would be a poor (not rich) photographer who exclusively used film and royal mail.
so although the purest and highest-end artist, such as you, may discern a diminishment in quality and faithfulness to the art itself! (the quality has almost reached equilibrium in my opinion) Not using it, in many cases, would be pointless and although perhaps not a handicap to quality, certainly a handicap to speed and quantity.
I do use BOB (i think i prefer your handle).. and it enables me to quickly asses a situation and play more games in a shorter period. Only that.
Having played both with and without it, it does not give a significant advantage because as you say one can count and recount then write it on paper.. as i used to.
So i would hold it is less akin to using a dictionary whilst playing scrabble .. which i hate being dyslexic, It is more akin to using a calculator when adding-up your tax returns, rather than the more honourable parchment and goose-quill which you must use

Yeah, Paparazzi (such a marvellous word .. they don't deserve it!)
Fashion-shows too, when a magazine needs pics for the next publication.. you couldn't do it in many cases with film .. i agree the technology has encouraged shrinking publishing schedules but they have shrunk to include more and more contemporary images.

what are you talking about? nothing offensive has been said. he is trying to compare BooB to digital
photography, you know, terms i can understand and relate to. forgive us if the discussion has gone over
your head. and where is the flame? flame wars is lame and dying, nobody even goes there except the
same 7 guys to get owned by Dancing Mustard. sooo, unless you have one of your wonderful spammy pics
to throw up, please let us continue the discussion on BooB.... i HATE it and will never use it!! even if i
understand why weak minded players do!!-0

What on earth are you talking about Kemler?
We are having a perfectly pertinent conversation .. (if a little allegorical) on who uses BOB. and if not why not.
If you would like to explain please send me a PM .. so you do not veer us off topic.

Re: A bit of Market Research... who uses BOB?
I agree in principle with owen though wouldnt consider it a good excuse to start a crusade, those that say they cant now play a difficult turn without BOB are certainly a good reason for me not to start using it. I know that my son, who was a very fine player, never used it either and he seemed to think that being forced to study each game carefuly was not a bad thing at all.

Re: A bit of Market Research... who uses BOB?
My comp was down and it I had to use my girlfriend's (hardcore IE user-type
) for a few days and I realized how much I had taken BOB for granted.
BOB, how I love thee; allow me to count the ways.
Auto count bonus- spectacular.
Hover cursor on a name and it highlights the players armies- I've become so blind without it I can't tell when I have a bonus.
Auto army count- great, I'm so lazy now.
Map shading options- yay I can see!
Avatar switch for the forums- best thing since sliced bread.
And many more, I'm just out of time.
Thank you to everyone associated with our Greasemonkey community, you've made this site immeasurably better for everyone who uses these tools. I don't know how I ever made it by without them (yes I do, it just cost me many, many points

Re: A bit of Market Research... who uses BOB?
I'm going to add to my earlier post... I would not play Actium without BoB.
That's probably the only map I'd say that about... but I've also never played on Waterloo.
