Congratulations to The Netherlands!
We expect to see the top positions held by Americans, Aussies or The UK, as there are comparatively more CC players from there, but when #1 AND #2 are held by The Netherlands, as well as 5 Dutch in the top 25, I think it deserves recognition!
I've said it before and will say it again, -They just seem to have a real grasp for the game.
Way to go Sjnap and Warsteiner! Well done!

Re: Congratulations to The Netherlands!
I can agree with the last line of your post where you congratulate the players, the rest of it is a steaming pile of nonsense. The Netherlands have nothing, repeat nothing to do with how well players from there do on this site. If they were being sponsored by some national committee for Risk-like internet games or were being officially endorsed by the government things would be different, however, they're all on their own (although with Warsteiner and his friends there's some doubt about how much on their own they (or he) actually are (or is)).
Now, don't make me go resurrect the "Americas rightful position" thread where I killed a similar argument.

I think he is only implying that simply based on odds, you'd expect the top spots to reflect the respective % of overall players from that part of the world.
Thus, it seems as if players from the Netherlands are representing "better" than other spots.
I think you're reading too much into this.

Re: Congratulations to The Netherlands!
Then he can congratulate the players and be on his way, but extending congratulations to the country is outright stupid as I see it, since those people play for themselves and not for their country in any way at all.

As long as people have been competing, people have taken notice of where they're from. And every time on country or state or city or what have you is well represented at the top, people will take notice of that.
The fact that the Netherlands doesn't sponsor a CC program has nothing to do with this and neither does it matter if they play for themselves or their country. If the runner up in yesterday's masters was also South African, we'd be saying that South Africa had a nice showing in the tourney and South Africans would be rightfully proud of their countrymen for their efforts. However, that competition was simply every man playing for himself.
It doesn't have to be the Olympics for people to take pride in the accomplishments of their countrymen. Now, granted, this is simply an on-line game. However, within the context of this game, The Netherlands are representing nicely.
Once again, you're reading too much into this or, if you will, trying too hard to "find holes in people's arguments."

Yes, the only way we can stop the Dutch stranglehold on CC is to make 3D maps!
The nation is so flat that they have evolved without the ability to process the concept of height
(As a bi-product the men can only think 1 dimensionally - hence Amsterdam)

If it were completely unimportant as to where players are from, than why the hell even bother with the little flags indicating their country... or are you too busy spewing your ignorant attacks on what others have to say to notice the flags?
As I see it, only a true asshole would take something as simple as a congratulations and turn it into an attack on the poster. What a prick.
AGAIN... Congratulations to THE NETHERLANDS for having so many of the top ranks in CC.

But who are you to tell anyone how to congratulate someone else? Sounds like you've got some real issues judging other people.
Detlef & Elijah are right on the money!!

Are you really so insecure about yourself that you have to make this thread about you, MeDeFe? Why not just let people show their appreciation in their own way and get lost. I thank Detlef & Elijah for trying to show some good sportsmanship here.

LOL - AMEN!
I have to think that this guy (MeDeFe) has some real issues.
Anyone who's posting an average of close to 11 posts each day, most of which are argumentative or some lame-ass attempt to demean someone else, really needs to pull himself away from his computer once in awhile and get a real life.
The kicker here is that had so many of the top players been from Germany, his country, I'd have been just as complimentary but, alas, the highest ranking German is currently holding the 51st position...

Actually I'm from Finland.
And I guess I'll just have to lower my standards.

Strangely I agree. What's got into you MeDeFe? Usually you're only too happy to congratulate people. Personally I've long admired the Dutch on this site - there's always been far more than you might expect fighting for top spot - the Aryan race and whatnot - tall, blonde and blue eyed really does hold true, well tall anyway.

Well, except that I don't think you don't actually admire the Dutch people as a whole, you admire some people who happen to be Dutch and play on this site. It's something like "inverse racism", instead of negative traits, positive ones extrapolated from a small sample are attributed to a large group. As I said in my first post, the Netherlands as a country have nothing to do with this, claiming that people somehow "represent" their countries here is stupid in my opinion, there is nothing in the slightest political about this game, as would be the case with World Championships and especially the Olympics where the underlying message is along the lines of "Let's get together and have a really good time instead of shooting each other". With those there are national as well as international institutions and guidelines that determine who gets to compete and who does not and you can actually in some sense claim that a country is doing well for itself. Here there is none of that. You join, you play, you're on your own. You only represent yourself.
See my point? I'm not whining about people being from the Netherlands, about people having points or anything like that. I'm pointing out that it's outright false to say that a country is doing well for itself. The thread about the rightful spot of the US got no better treatment than this, except that there the tone of the OP first elicited international flaming before the matter could be explained to him.
As for me being an arrogant prick, look at Elijah's post and tell me he didn't deserve a comment like that after implicitly going "nyanyanya you're just jealous because the highest ranking player from your country is only ranked 51st nyanyanya, if those dutchies had been krauts I would have congratulated Germany nyanyanya, you faaaail". After I had said that what I argue against is this propensity towards congratulating countries rather than players.
So far so good, any questions?

I just read Elijah's post. He didn't deserve a comment like that.
