as you make the map, you should make it so that Cambodia holds some kind of strategic advantage to a VietCong territory elsewhere.

and maybe some kind of risky benefit to the USA/South Vietnam territories to go into Cambodia. like maybe a negative army for the USA, but the ability to devastate the region, but VC would get the ability to fortify without adjoining terts, or something.

that'd be pretty rad. i'd play that map.

The Vietnam War in a nutshell:

Who started it: Viet Cong, Communists supported by the USSR
Who was first there: the French, slowly leaving their old colony, and the South Vietnamese, who didn't want to be taken over
Who got directly involved to contain communism: The USA
Who supplied tons of material and soldiers but was never officially involved: The USSR
Who won: the Viet Cong as they crushed the native South Vietnamese following USA withdrawal

These more look like some Vietnam War political discusion.

If you want to create map,firs you must not involve in any political discusion.and go to some site who will give you good informacion abouth Vietnam War(wikipedia is very good for informacion),and then when you colect number of informacion(terittories,units involve in fight,and others)then you can start work.
If CC alove creation of Iraq present war map,then i realy dont see any opstacles to you create Vietnam war map.

I can't imagine this will work out well for anybody, this map, but if Tom wants to see a Risk style version of the Vietnam war, the Lux company has one with their American History Lux package. It's a very hard map, a lot of fun, and will be fun to play if nothing else... and it, uh, shows some of the rough borders of the conflict- a demo of the game can be downloaded from Version Tracker and is good for 30 plays or something like that.

To me there are some big problems with history style Risk maps, and chief among them is the fact that Conquer Club really needs a random drop, which is uh... not the position most wars are started from. Simply put, Risk is too simple of a game to accommodate much history in it. That is more for Axis and Allies style things that specialize in one war or one battle in a war or the like. And are noticeably more complex, what with having different weapons and ways of making money for resources.

But then again the Lux thing works out well... what do I know... Lux is pretty cool anyway for anyone who hasn't already been aware of it.

I'm just trying to set a 'theme', as ive seen on some map idea something like "what is the general idea or theme".

There were some very specific bases where American operations were centerred, despite every movie looking like they just flew around on helocopters and walked around in the jungles.

So that you don't end up with just a geography lesson, I suggest you use the bases as a way to supplement normal territories (like the cities on the Italy map) and give them non-contiguous attack ability (like cavalry in Waterloo - hey, in fact the helicopter units were generally referred to as airborn cavalry). You also should remember that air power was a major tool used by the US, so you might want to have a couple of off shore aircraft carriers with ability to bombard certain territories in the north.

Non-continuous tunnel attackes, like in Iwo Jima, are a must in the North. You might include territories in China and Cambodia which cannot be attacked (for political reasons) from the adjacent territories of Vietname, but have one-way attack ability into the country. To make game play feasible, you could have a water route, like in Alexander Empire, to get into Cambodia or China.

FYI - I checked out this Lux software and the Vietnam War map is not included in the demo.

i didn't read all the posts, so i'm not sure if it's already been mentioned. but you should make sure that there are 4 dif armies in the game or something like that. the NVA, or North Veitnamese Army, the USA, and Southern Vietnamese Army, and the Vietcong. the NVA was the 'official' army of North Vietnam, the Vietcong were the 'unofficial' guerillas. the USA Green Berets trained the SVA. lol just thought i'd share that with you.

Governator... i don't think we're going to follow the "opposing sides army" model. It's going to be an anybody can attack anybody type of map, subject to limits on bombardments for particular assets (i.e., more bombardments of the north, but more bonus point available if you can hold the north, and some one way attacks into the south). Not a bad suggestion, but I'd rather not go there... b/c sorting out which armies were stationed where, etc. would be near impossible even if you could fit some type of icons on the already squished provences..

If people want army based bonuses and attack models, they can play Waterloo or Actium...
