Eastern Hemisphere [Quenched]

What this is all about: I give you the Eastern Hemisphere at the beginning of the 20th century - an era of global colonialism and nation building. Centuries-old empires were on the verge of collapse as the Ottoman, Russian, Persian, and Chinese Empires fell. Russia was heading for revolution, centuries-old colonies gained independence, there was an international scramble to control African resources, and Europe was on the brink of war. The map of the Eastern Hemisphere was about to be completely redrawn.

The basics of the current map:
• 70 territories, 69 of which are starting territories.
• Ten "classic" regions.
• Empires are non-contiguous regions; hold a European country and their overseas colonies.
• Naval Superiority will start neutral with a value of 4 and revert back each round. Taking Naval Superiority allows European powers to bombard colonies (flagged) territories around the globe; this is intended to reflect the military might of the European imperial states of the time, and their ability to disrupt trade and governments around the globe. The powers may NOT directly attack their colonies.
• Eight territories in Europe - Great Britain, France, Spain, Portugal, Germany, Austria-Hungary, Italy, and Netherlands - will be coded as starting locations so nobody begins with an overwhelming European presence. All other territories will be normal starts. Should make for a historically appropriate, first world war style conflagration in Europe.

are the highlighted terits there the only things going to be used?
or are there going to be more terits?
is the whole map shown there going to be split up in to separate terits? wouldnt this be like world 2.1 but with half of it cut out?

btw i like the idea!

Again, I haven't done ANY work on this... but I may later today. The maps presented above aren't my work, nor are they intended to in any way reflect what the map will look like.

I would, however, welcome suggestions about how this map could be split into regions - perhaps four big continent bonuses and ten to twelve sub-regions within the continents, as we have in World 2.1?

cute. :)

Eastern Hemisphere should work just fine. As for the continents and territories, I could essentially match what is going on in World 2.1, something like this:
Europe with subcontinents Scandinavia, Western Europe, Eastern Europe
Asia with subcontinents Russia, Middle East, India, and Far East
Africa with subcontinents Magreb, Southern Africa, and the Horn
Oceania with subcontinents Australia and the East Indies

That's four continents, and 12 sub-regions. The map would come in somewhere around 70 territories, I'm guessing.

I'm not really a fan of the dead areas in World 2.1, so New Zealand could be lumped in with Australia (ANZAC?), etc.

Hmm... ANZAC... a first world war era theme might be fun. It would allow for some creative tinkering of borders, and it would make sense that the western hemisphere isn't involved. ??

It wouldn't be the same territories, just similar bonus regions. I'll see what I can put together later today.

Looks cool. I'd assume that there will be a sequel of the western hemisphere.

East, West...it is all a matter of perspective. ;)

I like this idea...we have numerous maps of the "World" and maps of smaller areas I.E. continents...so why not go in between and do Half World maps like this? I like it.

If you wanted to be real crazy...you could do Above and Below the Equator maps also! ;) But that may not work so well.

you mean antarctic ;) lol
antarctica has been suggested before - but the problems were in splitting it up into conts and labeling, and that there would be little impassables and the gameplay would be crap - i think anyway, i'll look it up
i think that we can almost never have enough world maps, as long as theyre not too similar to one another...i think this map will go far,

draft?

oops - yes, there would of course be a Europe bonus. Maybe even two separate bonuses for the Central Powers and the Entente (sp?) Powers.

I don't know if a WWI themed map for the Eastern Hemisphere is very good -- most of the fighting was focused in Europe. I think this should just be a geographical map.

I say keep it geographic, but use some older political boundaries than present day. I'm liking the look you've got right now, and if you want to age the boundaries to WWI era, more power to you, just don't make WWI proper the focus.

right... it doesn't haveto be WWI per se, but i like having the 1914 theme to push the graphics.
