Zombies! Suddenly, thousands of them! [Abandoned]

Post by I_AM_RESISTY »

I was watching Land of the Dead last night, and it dawned on me, "Why not have a Zombie apocalypse Map for that oh-so-fun game CC?"

The only problem is, since the idea came to me on 6 hours ago, (it being 10AM here) I haven't exactly worked everything out.

I just want to field the idea before putting work into it.

I was thinking of a grouping of eight buildings, maybe a mall, a library, a hospital, a police station, you know, those sorts of places.
Each one has several rooms, depending on their reinforcement value.
There are also smaller, one-room buildings mostly grocery stores or pawn shops. Containing a particular number of these would grant more reinforcement.
Between each building are streets, segmented up, with Zombies on them. Zombies would be slowly but gradually reinforcing neutrals.
Since they reinforce, the longer you battle amongst yourselves, the more zombies there are.
The objective would be to control all of the various buildings, and contain the zombies.

I know that's really quite n00bish of me to make a suggestion with no art to back it up, but I fail at art.
I just really, really love this idea.

EDIT: And if any of those ideas seems half baked, it's because they popped in my head as I was writing.

Like I said, i fail at art.
And this is a concept sketch.
The dimensions, buildings, detail, and colors are very off.

Your going to have to do better than a paint sketch.

why dont you just do a rough sketch on paper, then scan it into the computer and post it?

is that what you're aiming for?
basically a city?
cities have been suggested numerous times, that is just one of them and i dont think that we need another one, because the things that you've suggested i.e. "mall" and things are in that thread there waiting to be quenched.

i think i get what he is getting at

its basically a city, yet you have to stop the zombies take-over while protecting the town. im guessing this would be an objective game? control all areas surrounding the zombie areas and u win?

Yes! Zombies! OMG yes! I'll definitely ponder this and see if I can't contribute something more definite...

Couple this concept with cicero's infected neutral proposal, and you really would have zombies breaking into buildings. I'd say run with it, but please get a fully-formed map idea in a post so we can see all the territories. Don't kill yourself on graphics just yet, but I think the idea has legs.

You should totally plan to use the infected neutrals that will soon come about.

Here so you don't have to search. I can't think of a better concept to be representative of this new scheme.

Like I said, I have no art talent whatsoever, and no scanner.
I work from a lappy.

The infected neutrals have a lot of promise, and I was also thinking perhaps we could do something along the lines of barricades.
Like overrun in some board versions of Risk, just backwards.

Say Yellow has territories sitting at a door, and there are zombies just outside. As long as Yellow maintains x armies more than neutral, the neutrals can't even try to break in.

Still working on finding something more substantial for graphics though.
If anyone wants to help, feel more than free to.

I'm almost positive that's impossible.

Meh, it was an idea, wasn't it?
Anyway, The way i see it, there would be 8 main buildings, acting the same role as continents; ya know, reinforcement bonuses.
If I were to use the infected neutrals, it would probably be best to include alleyways or something of the sort that can only be accessed from inside buildings, leading to other buildings, to allow better direct combat between players.

The goal would be to eliminate the other factions of humans, rather than the zombies. They're just there to add a extra bit of interest.

There would also be supply sort of buildings: Drugstores, Grocery Stores, Pawn Shops. They would just serve for easily obtainable reinforcements, since I forsee players needing plenty of extra firepower to hold of the ever-increasing zombies.

I might be capable of producing some legitimate starting image for you if you can give me a more defined setup. I assume thematically you're thinking of the kind of Romero "trapped in a building for the whole damn movie" type of theme? As far as continent bonuses go, I think the mall, police station, and hospital are good starts. I was thinking maybe a military base or something like that in the middle, with a nice big bonus for owning it, which would also encourage people to come out of their holes, and perhaps provide a more centralizing effect on the zombies. A street name system might be good for all the zombies to hang out in. Any other ideas?

That's a great idea, but i would like the idea of many hostile forces cramped together, so 8 main buildings is a good start, I think.
That and not all places should have a great reinforcement bonus.
The military base is a good idea, especially if it is cut off from the alleys, and maybe has a bombardment feature to keep the zeds down, or to mow down a few opponents.

What I need as far as the map, I need 7 buildings, connected to the adjacent ones, preferably on the edge of the map.
Then the military base, being the eighth, in the middle, and about 6 various buildings, 2 pawn shops, 2 grocers, and 2 drugstores. Not neccesarily those, but buildings that would be vital to survivors.

Then several streets, probably every intersection should be a new area.
No need to worry about names right now, once the map is down, that can be done.

Hey, good news, I'm getting my lovely girlfriend to help me a lot on the map.
Unlike me, she is made of win when it comes to art.
So, I may have a decent map coming up.

I'm triple posting now, am I a bad person?

The map is going well, actually, but I need ideas on how often to split the streets into their various sections? Too few, and the zombies will be no threat. Too many, and the people will end up working together against the zombies instead of against eachother.

Ideas, random bystanders and lurkers?
