Re: Oasis ---- OMG NEW UPDATE! (V3.0 page 1 and 13)
i think numbers are better. it doesn't make sense to have names for every little part of a destroying, uninhabited desert. numbers make it more of a desert.

Re: Oasis ---- OMG NEW UPDATE! (V3.0 page 1 and 13)
So it looks like numb3rs are winning.
Unless there are any major objections, I will do the numbers tomorrow (they are very easy to do).
I am going to split it into North Desert and South Desert
So they will be done like this in the game log:
North Desert 1
North Desert 2
...
North Desert 32?
South Desert 1
South Desert 2
...
South Desert 32?
(not quite sure on the top number for each section, but it will probably work out.)

How about a compromise: split the desert into 4 regions, with some names Age of Realms style, but number within them. It does make sense that larger regions within the desert might have names.

Thats jsut like feudal then with large regions broke down my numbers.
What do you know about map making, bitch?

Right -- but there aren't any bonuses involved with them.

Re: Oasis ---- OMG NEW UPDATE! (V3.0 page 1 and 13)
Numbers. It's silly to think that every little sand dune would have a name. If someone accidentally drops in North Desert 1 instead of North Desert 11, then they 're a retard and would probably have trouble with certain quenched maps (like d-day and conquerman).
And the obvious solution would be to fix it so that 1 and 11 aren't adjacent in the drop-down.

why not take a lesson from feudal?
number the desert territories by the oasis that they border?
for example:
Oasis of Life 1-13, Oasis of Strength 1-5, etc...
however lame it may be to quote myself, i feel like no one read this post, since the sentiment was repeated at least twice.
edit: why don't you just put up a poll?

wcaclimbing has already said he didn't like the idea, because quite a few desert territories border two (three of them even border three) oases. My idea of doing it more like Feudal was actually a way to get around that.

again, like feudal, he could use slightly different colored numbers.

You could name the oasises (sp?) since they are moer likely to be named than large parts of desert. I dont see any reason not to use both names and numbers on the map.

He's naming the oases (that's proper spelling, for your future edification) and has always intended to. I think the debate has been over whether or not to name the desert.

Re: Oasis ---- OMG NEW UPDATE! (V3.0 page 1 and 13)
Oases will get names (Oasis of ______)
Fertile land will get names (describe the area. sheep farm, pavilion, grassland, etc)
Deserts will get numbers (North Desert 1, South Desert 1, etc.)
I don't want to split it into reigons, because
A. why would the people name the desert into reigons?
B. reigons would imply divisions in the desert, of which there are none.
C. to make reigons, that would mean I have to make some of the dividing lines bigger, and that wouldn't look as good.

Ok, I just finished the Desert numbers.
To quote the Staples easy button....
"That was easy."
seriously, it took all of 10 minutes to do them.
I'm not gonna post it yet, cause I am going to do the names for everywhere else first.
Shouldn't be too much longer. Expect an update sometime within the next few hours.

Maybe there should be different bonuses for oases, there doesnt seem to be any reason to go for some of them. Especially the two on the ends.

Forget that part, I'm using made-up names now.
There were too many places to name with describing the area.
Made up names are fun, I'm throwing in a few that you guys might recognize (Inklo, Kaplo, etc)

Re: Oasis ---- OMG NEW UPDATE! (V3.0 page 1 and 13)
NEW UPDATE! Now with Territory Names!
V3.5:
---NOTE---
This is basically the same thing as the V3.0 update, except it now has ALL OF THE TERRITORY NAMES!!!!!!

Image updated with all name changes posted on page 17.
I'm making it a thumbnail link because the forum disagrees with my attempts to post the full size image. Click the small pic to get to the full size version.
Most of these are things I did for V3.0. The list has been updated to Include V3.5 stuff. (new stuff is added in using GREEN FONT)
STUFF DONE:
Removed a few Oases. There are now 16 instead of 20.
The big sheep died. Smaller sheep have taken their place.
The small houses got removed.
Lots of big rocks have been turned into little rocks.
Added details to the oases.
Finished Territory names.
Put a new font on part of the map key.
Got rid of the border through the Grand Oasis Lake.
Made part of the desert borders more bold to clarify North Desert and South Desert.
STUFF TO DO:
Add more oases details.
Get accepted into the main foundry
DISCUSSION TOPICS:
GRAPHICS! how to improve them?
Territory names. Good, Bad, or Ugly?
How can the names improve?
New font on the big paragraph in the map key. Good or bad?
PS: Two more things....
1.I will not have access to this image file next week, so I won't be posting any updates next week.
2. Is this when I get moved into the main foundry?
V3.5:

Re: Oasis ---- Update w/all territory names!(V3.5 page 1 and 17)
Clymb, Kaplo, Klayn, Bazaa, Kain, Reail, and Ourno have a few clipping issues between the name and the territory art. Moving the text just a smidge should fix it for all of them.
Re: Oasis ---- Update w/all territory names!(V3.5 page 1 and 17)
Some of the names are funny. Limig, for example
Others seem kinda stupid, most notable Rawr. Please change that one...
Overall, I like it. The font is cool, and now that I see it all I just can't resist saying QUENCH!!

Limig= Gimil (but backwards) He is down in that corner with InkL0sed, Kaplowitz, and Bryguy. I'll change it, though.
Changed Rawr to Sewa
Changed Limig to Tack (for TaCktiX)
(all the username-inspired names are just a sort of thank-you to some of the people that have helped in this thread)

Ok, I fixed all of those.
I also changed Klayn to Else. Klayn was too similar to Klien for me to like.
Kaplowitz wrote:And there are two oases of strength
Fixed........ and now i feel kinda stupid
Oasis of Strengh (the bottom one) changed to Oasis of Glory
