Re: Does sarcasm come through in online forums?
I see no point in using sarcasm in this forum myself.

I sense a tone of sarcasm in that last post.

Re: Does sarcasm come through in online forums?
I often end my sarcastic comments with the "wink" smiley...

I also use periods to convey dramtic pauses... when "read" with a pause I think this helps convey sarcasm...
though some here have complained that I do that too often... and also complained about my apparant need to start each new sentense on it's own line
that however is another tactic I use to convey may sarcasm... sometimes
I just received an email from a friend... and he introduced me to another way...
he used the following "/sarc" without the quotes... to indicate the sarcasm was being turned off...
of course... if you alwasy have to point out you are being sarcastic... doesn't it take some of the fun of being sarcastic away????
maybe that's another poll....

In actual RL dialogue between actual people... I've found that in the USA, southerners have a tough time picking up sarcasm in conversation because it just isn't used as much... or the same way as in the north.
hey jimbo... I do that . . . too.

maybe us northerners are just a more cynical and essentially 'mean' lot of people?
i've heard that people from the northeast just aren't as "nice" as people from the south or midwest before... from multiple people...
where i grew up... you had to have thick skin and be able to defend yourself, both verbally and physically... and this was from your friends

Just use simple BBcode to get it across as such:
"That was a great move [/sarcasm]"

Re: Does sarcasm come through in online forums?
I don't remember a time when I was sarcastic, and somebody didn't completely not misinterpret it, in an opposite sense to an extent that it is impossible to understand what in god's name I'm trying to say here
