I still like version 4 the best; the white outlines just look too out of place, like you're emphasizing the sub-groups as more important than the walls. Also, the army circles are really unnecessary, since it's a plain background anyway.

Well the white outlines actually make teh borders easier to see. Since there are 12 different bonus groups and the gray neutrals, the black dotted line is hard to see on dark territories like the blue and the gray. And if I make the dotted lines lighter, they are harder to see on the white and yellow. By making it dark and then light it is easy to see on all colors. Maybe I will try white dots with black borders.

As far as not having army circles the same issue happens. It is hard to see the dark numbers in the dark territories.

Unless you can suggest 13 different colors that are light enough not to need army circle yet different enough not to cause colorblind issues or differentiation, we need the circles.
But please suggest colors if you think you can pick them well.

Thanks

Intereating idea - I would like to play it. :D

Would it be possible to put the letters along the bottom as well as the top?
You have the numbers down both side and I think this would make it easier when working out the names of the territories, which territory is 'N17' etc

I can try. It will be really tight since I can't make the images any taller. I will update in the next version.

While we sort out the dotted line style and colors I would like input on ...
    -bonuses
-subgroup division placement (i.e where the dotted lines go)
    -colors for the territories
-neutral respawn level (what is too high and what is too low)

Thanks

why don't you make the 'borders that reset to neutrals' black?

solves the isue mentioned before about making the dotted lines stand out more then the borders (which is actually true IMHO)

great map btw, can hardly wait to play it. really a fresh new idea.

It is not that the borders of the maze make the dotted lines hard to see. It is the colors of the territories (black, blue) that make the dots hard to see. I added the white so they would pop better.

Once I update the map with column letters on the bottom I will submit two versions. One with black dotted lines only and one with the current black with white outline.

Plus making the border territories all black makes the map really dark. I want to keep the light gray for now.

First look at this map made me cringe!! However, after a closer look im starting to like this map. its going to provea very tactical map indeed.

Am i right in saying that you can only attack another colour gropu through the dotted lines?

no. you can actually go through those grey territories. they start out neutral with 2 troops, but on your next turn (if you still hold it) it will become 5 neutrals.

We're not 100% sure the XML will work for this at the moment.

I discussed this with Lack...

He says that the current engine will support the required gameplay dynamic here...

So I raised it in the XML thread...

Well I am back, sort of. My new computer is here and the old harddrives are ok but I still have many other things to take care of before life is 100% normal again.

I will continue to work on MC once I get back in order. Just wanted to give everyone an update.

this might have been brought up already, but...

why not put a "beginning/start" area and an "end/finish area". you could put a mouse at the beginning and cheese at the end or something cheesy like that and make each area like 4 squares, worth maybe 3 or 4 points. this way it resembles a maze more instead of an oddly colored crossword puzzle.

Not sure if it's going to be addressed later, but the white section of the map is too white. The borders wash out in the face of all that shockingly white white.

What borders? The white circles? If that is what you mean then OK. I used white because we already have a lot of colors and we need them to be as different as possible. Plus white easily allows for reading on army numbers .

this is an interesting idea. The issue: No more room. The legend already is cramped in the small map. I understand what you mean but the "maze craze" feel of the map will take shape once the players start killing the neutrals and those neutrals respawn to make tougher spaces. And once enough neutrals get respawned into higher numbers the maze shape will take form (from a gameplay perspective)

OK everyone who cares about this map. We need discussion on:

-Bonuses for holding all of a color (top right of legend)
-color sub group breakups (where teh dotted white lines go) and there bonus levels (top middle of teh legend)
-Neutral starting level (currently 2) and neutral respawm level (currently 5, top right of legend)
-Color selection for the map to make sure no one has issues telling different colors apart
Thanks

Did you use a formmula to come up with the bonuses or were they just made up?

If so what?

Also, a couple of things on the small map:
1) You're missing the border between squares C13/C14
2) T17 seems to be the wrong colour

I'm not sure on how best to split up the bonus groups though, not the sort of thing I'm good at :)
