I am referring to the land tragically usurped by the socialo-masonic Republic and illegally forced into prostitution by said ignominious entity, (at the profit of the Mohameddan hordes, as was seen in 2005), and which now proposes to further enslave it by furthering her defencelessness through opening of the borders to the Ottomans.

Ig, I know I'm not Greek. I never claimed I was. If you can find the place were I said otherwise, then I'll stand down. But since that never happened, shut your mouth. No, I have not been to Constantinople and I will not call it anything else so shut your cake hole!

I should shut up? Maybe you can't get it but what you ask for just proves how stupid you really are.
No valid arguments, claiming false historic rights to a piece of land that's Ottoman for the last 550 years.

And I should shut up? You just proved how stupid you are, so please don't embarrass yourself anymore.

As things stand, as much as I'd like to see Greece be returned the lands that I feel belong to it, I accept the current reallity; Turkey owns Constantinople (never going to call it anything else, get over it) and the European side of the seaway there(honestly, the name escapes me, so lay off). It is what it is and no amount of wishful thinking will change a thing, I know that.

So Ignotus, sorry if I rubbed you all the wrong way.

Now, as far as Turkey joining the EU, in honesty, if they can let um. Might erk Naps and his sort but if it is the best of all parties involved, whatever floats the boat. Might not have a sake in the matter, being an "ugly american", but I recognise an internal and non-US affair when I see one.

It's OK.

Just when did Constantinople (as you call Istanbul) belong to Greece and what's its connection with modern Greece?

btw Modern Greeks are far from Plato, Aristotel. And Byzantine empire wasn't a Greek state.

Ethnic history: the Greek people lived on that land long before the Romans conquered it and longer still before the coming of the Ottomans. I admit, it is hardly a very sound position to hold but there you have it.

On a side note, "modern" Greece isn't that old. And most of the Balkans could have gone along fine without the Ottomans rampaging about and they'd be better off without that in their history books. But the reality is what it is.

Somehow, I feel I could say that with more tact.

How about not persecuting folks with different ideas, considering any disagreement with the government a crime.

But, then I am not part of the EU, so my opinion is just that .. an opinion, not a vote... : )

My information is NPR and the BBC. (National Public Radio, USA and British Broadcasting Corporation).

Showing disrespect for Turkey is still against the law .. and the definition is left open.

cute, but no.

I am speaking of strictly non-violant verbal criticism. Journalists have to be very, very careful in ways no one in the US or most of the EU would even dream.

I think you don't have to be that careful. Don't know who your sources are....

I can post you a picture of me messing with a member of Turkish honorary guard in front of Yildiz Palace. And did I got arrested? Well... NO!

Though I must admit: I didn't try to write anything offensive on his forehead.
Hmmm, note for next time: Try to write...

Christianity belongs in the desert where they came from too, but sadly that's not true.

You were a tourist. Usually countries try not to harm tourists so that they have a good image. And you haven't done anything serious to be arrested.
