What's that? 'Bait an angry conservative time' you say? Well here goes:Yes, yes it was. His diplomacy in the face of American War-Mongering and Covert Sabotage was astonishing. If it weren't for the USA controlled media machine that, to this day, holds the world in its sway, then we'd remember him as an equal to Ghandi... maybe even greater than him, who knows?

Where is the poll option for "Doddering old fool that the ego-centric baby-boomers voted in because they wanted their granpa to make them feel better about themselves and their plastic fucking grab-all you can life . . "?

Following the Carter years, during which we saw massive inflation and the taking of American hostages in Iran, Ronald Reagan restored a sense of national pride.
And, for the record, Gorbachev was a tremendous figure in history, but the Cold War was between 2 different ideologies and as I recall, The Soviet Union spent billions maintaining and adding to what was a fucking lot of strength and Nukes. -Basically, The United States didn't have the Cold War alone.
Ultimately, a contributing factor to the disolvement of the Soviet Union was that it could no longer afford to finance it's war machine.
Also, Communism failed to generate much of a middle class, instead creating a greater division between the "haves" and "have nots".

Ronald Reagan, like him, hate him, was a great President whose rightful place in history won't be at all tarnished by the comments of a few attention-deprived wannabe intellectuals in a Conquer Club Forum.

Decent at best. More jobs made by Clinton, more anti-Commie effort made by LBJ.

I have qualms with this statement. I think your sarcasm is a bit unwarranted. There are mechanisms involved to express your opinion. Assaulting a political figure is not normally a culturally accepted one, though I'd say he got his point across fairly well.

True that. How about Teddy Roosevelt? FDR? They rocked so hard people died, and they weren't assassinated per say. Unless you count polio as an assassin.

There was an attempt on Reagans life.

They tried to kill Ford twice. So by your logic, Ford was twice as good as Reagan, and so far above everybody else it's not even close.

Vive Gerald Ford!

Seriously, I'd be curious to hear unrig's logic, although I'm pretty sure he didn't mean the act of assassination (successful or not) makes a president great.

Teddy Roosevelt was shot in the chest and survived by pure luck. I think it hit his glasses case or something.

He had been about to make a speech when it happened. He was so energetic that he made the speech anyway before he went to the hospital.

Great man, TR.
