Brilliant!
2.) Move to a country that does have free education.

And how is one to do that when they don't actually have any money?

Why not privatize the police and army while you're at it?

They could

a) get a job, the bums

b) whore themselves out

or

c) hijack a plane

That's penalizing kids even more for not being born to wealthy parents, something they're penalized enough for already. If we can't guarantee that all kids will have an equal start, we can hope that public education will make this into some sort of meritocracy.

How many people do you know that put themselves through school? This would work on that premise. Once the government workers are gone, their will be a lot more options for those less educated. Work your way through school. I hear the road companies are hiring. They teach on the job. As for k12 education, change it k10 and start apprenticeships. Anyone who hasn't completed their k10 and wants to can to do once they have a job that pays well enough. Or just take that job that is being offered that they are qualified for and work their way up. And remember their will always be the charitable organization schools. (google Weedpatch school in California.)

Good option, but these humble people may not be able to afford a box-cutter.

All law enforcement falls under military. If we can "police" other countries, certainly we can "police" our own.

God no. American education is bad enough as is. God, I can't even begin to imagine what would happen.

::shudder::

Here are my three:

Push for increased funding for basic research in all fields.

Push for measures to lower the US' environmental footprint.

Establish atheism as the national religion.

It's true, but I feel that the government has the responsibility to contribute to world progress. Additionally, if the government starts showing a bias (a notorious fault for privatized research), the government can be changed.

What are you talking about? I'm not saying state money is necessary for advancement, but it helps. Are you telling me that everything Einstein did after 1905 was useless?

And? Government is a human institution, using money collected from humans. Government should have interest in the basic research field as well, if for no other reason than to keep up with other countries.

Not really...it requires tax money, which stagnates the economy, and creates less demand for new research, which in turn creates less incentives, which leads the government to believe it needs to pointlessly throw more money at the problem...

Yes. And without having the state fund part of the research, it won't happen.

Take for example medicine. There is almost no research going into a cure for countless diseases like AIDS or cholesterol-related diseases. There is research, but that is focused on making medicine that lasts a life-time so the company can make money on it.

It seems like a pretty good place for my tax money to go. Not to mention it could be subsidized by the wonderful amounts of tuition I have to pay. Or not. Economics isn't really my thing. But I can think of several things I would trade for increased funding in that area.

Do I sound like a protester? :?
I just believe in government for the people, by the people. I don't need another Daddy. Government officials should represent us, not make decisions for us. Government has no money, and shouldn't. (not talking about the debt)

We need to pay our bills as a people for our military service and some government officials. Our government does not have money for research.

The people have money individually that may be used for research as each individual decides it should. I don't want anyone using my share of anything for something I may be morally and intellectually against.

The problem with commercializing research is that basic research doesn't pay out. So no private interests are going to seriously want to fund it. However, without basic research, applied research has nothing to build on. You want to talk about a stagnant economy...

I assume you are talking about commercial research funding in the third paragraph. Basic research is too expensive for the average Joe, and CEOs won't foot the bill for my reasoning above.

Government must support basic research. Rich (not to mention unbiased) philanthropists are too few and far between.

Listen, you ignorant twat, just because you obviously fail to realize the difference between contemporary science and science of the past doesn't give you the right to act all smart and shit. I know you ignore my posts because they don't contain enough intellectual words you can look up in your dictionary, and that's fine. I know you want to sound educated by throwing around book titles like Das Kapital (which I haven't read because I'm not a commie) but you really should open up your mind more.

I mean, don't you think there was just a tiny little difference between what Newton did and what we research nowadays? Aside from the fact Newton had the money to research due to being rich enough, there is still the difference between then and now.
