As an American I would put Band Of Brothers up there also. But I am partial to Gettysburg even though it was about the Civil War. The movie expressed both side's of view what they we're fighting for. Also the number of friends that fought against each other was heart wrentching.
Jeff Daniels character Colonel Chamberlain's speech about what they we're fighting for was inspiring:
"This is a different kind of army. If you look at history you'll see men fight for pay, or women, or some other kind of loot. Well, it potrays the reality of modern Scotland far better than any other Scottish film I've seen before. It was all tartan and shortbread bollocks for the tourists before that.
